Akali

The Fist of Shadow

How this differs from the live game

  • Akali's Passive provides bonuses based on bonus Attack Damage and Ability Power
  • Akali's Q is a targetted ability
  • Akali's E does AOE damage around her
  • Akali's R is a targetted dash

Magic penetration marks are for Mark of the Assassin's initial hit and proc, plus Shadow Dance, since Akali's main trades are magic damage. Armor seals, MR glyphs, and AP quints give her enough lane durability while improving Q and R burst.

This is 21/0/9: deep offense for AP burst, magic penetration, and Executioner, then utility for Flash cooldown and Runic Affinity. Archmage is maxed instead of taking Summoner's Wrath — its 5% is permanent and scales with the Gunblade and Deathcap build, while Wrath's flat bonus only applies once Ignite is on cooldown. Dropping Wrath still leaves 16 points above Archmage and 20 above Executioner, so both unlock. The utility page spends 8 points in higher rows before taking Runic Affinity.

  • Shadow Dance (R) takes points at levels 6, 11, 16.

Max Q first because both the throw and consumed mark scale by rank and define Akali's lane trades. Take W at level 2 for safety, then max E second for shorter cooldown AoE once fights and wave clears matter.

Alternative — Max E before finishing Q only in rare shove-focused melee matchups; the normal Season 3 lane pattern was Q max.

  • Ahri

    AhriEven

Akali can kill Ahri if she gets past Charm, but Spirit Rush lets Ahri stretch the fight and punish every reckless Shadow Dance.

Watch for Charm catches Akali during her dash or shroud exit and turns her all-in into Ahri's full combo.

    How to beat

Hold just outside Charm line and use Q mark pressure before spending R. Commit only after Charm is missed or forced into Twilight Shroud, then chain Shadow Dance charges so Ahri cannot reset the spacing for Orb of Deception's return hit.

Later Finished items make the side lane playable for Akali if Ahri's Charm is down, but Ahri contributes safer pick and poke in teamfights. Flank from fog, wait for Spirit Rush charges to be used defensively, and do not start the fight by dashing through her whole team.

    • Do not R in a straight line when Charm is ready.
    • Twilight Shroud breaks Fox-Fire targeting if you can delay its lock-on.
    • If Ahri uses Spirit Rush forward, she has fewer dashes to escape your second and third R.
    • Stand off the return path of Orb of Deception after you proc Q.
    BuyBanshee's VeilMercury's TreadsQuicksilver Sash
  • Alistar

    AlistarEven

Akali wins damage trades, but Alistar can deny her kill window with Headbutt, Pulverize, heal, and Unbreakable Will.

Watch for Headbutt knocks Akali out of her mark proc and can waste a Shadow Dance charge.

    How to beat

Do not open with your last gap closer while Headbutt is available; Q first and make him choose between backing up or using W early. Once Headbutt or Pulverize is down, re-enter with R, fight inside Twilight Shroud, and disengage immediately when Unbreakable Will starts.

Later Alistar rarely gives Akali a clean side-lane duel and becomes much better as a teamfight peel support. Kill his carries instead; if he ults, stop hitting him and use him only as a Shadow Dance bridge when it is safe.

    • Mark him before Unbreakable Will if possible, but do not spend the proc into the damage reduction.
    • If he Headbutts you away without Pulverize, you can often R back before he escapes.
    • Twilight Shroud is best used after his knockup, not before he can push you out of it.
  • Amumu

    AmumuUnfavoured

Amumu's crowd control and percent-health damage make extended melee fights bad for Akali unless he misses Bandage Toss or wastes Curse of the Sad Mummy.

Watch for Curse of the Sad Mummy locks Akali in place long enough for Despair and Tantrum to keep ticking while she cannot reposition.

    How to beat

Stand behind minions or angle sideways so Bandage Toss is not a free opener. If he misses Q, take a short Q-R-auto-E trade and leave before Despair wins the long fight; never commit through his ultimate unless you can kill before the stun matters.

Later Amumu outvalues Akali in grouped fights because his ultimate decides clumps, while Akali is better at cleaning up after it is spent. In side lane he is hard to burst but not very threatening if you refuse the long Despair duel.

    • Do not sit in Twilight Shroud while Despair is running if you are not actively winning the trade.
    • His passive lowers your MR, so repeated autos before his spell rotation make his damage less harmless than it looks.
    • Keep a Shadow Dance charge for after Bandage Toss, not only for engaging.
    BuySpirit VisageMercury's TreadsBanshee's Veil
  • Anivia

    AniviaUnfavoured

Akali can reach Anivia, but Flash Frost, Crystallize, Glacial Storm, and Rebirth make a clean one-rotation kill very hard.

Watch for Flash Frost stuns Akali as she dashes in and sets up the doubled Frostbite punish.

    How to beat

Do not Shadow Dance directly through Flash Frost's travel line; bait Q at mid range, then R after it passes or detonates. Save a charge for after Crystallize because Anivia wants to wall your exit, drop Glacial Storm under you, and force you to fight through egg timer.

Later Anivia controls grouped terrain much better than Akali, while Akali can threaten her in side lane only if Flash Frost is down and Rebirth is unavailable. In teamfights, enter late from a side angle and avoid being the first body trapped by wall plus storm.

    • Breaking egg is not a win if Glacial Storm and enemy collapse keep you trapped beside it.
    • Twilight Shroud can buy time against Frostbite follow-up, but it does not remove storm damage.
    • Keep track of Rebirth before choosing between killing Anivia and leaving.
    BuyBanshee's VeilMercury's TreadsQuicksilver Sash
  • Annie

    AnnieUnfavoured

Annie's instant stun burst outranges Akali and can kill or force her out before Akali finishes her dash chain.

Watch for Pyromania stun on Summon: Tibbers or Disintegrate stops Akali's all-in and frontloads Annie's full burst.

    How to beat

Watch Annie's stun count and do not enter when Pyromania is ready unless you are forcing a defensive cast into shroud. Poke with Q when she uses spells on minions, then commit only after stun is spent or when you can kill through one rotation immediately.

Later Annie is more dangerous in teamfights because Flash-Tibbers style engage can decide the fight before Akali reaches a carry. In side lane Akali can kill her if stun is down, but finished Annie punishes every face-check and direct dash.

    • Do not trust Twilight Shroud against a ready Tibbers stun; the area hit still catches you.
    • If Annie uses Molten Shield before you enter, factor in the extra resistances and return damage on autos.
    • Her attack range lets her hold stun without using spells, so minion count alone does not make the trade safe.
    BuyBanshee's VeilMercury's TreadsHexdrinker
  • Ashe

    AsheFavoured

Ashe's slows are annoying, but once Akali gets a Shadow Dance angle Ashe has no short-cooldown escape and usually dies after Arrow is dodged or spent.

Watch for Enchanted Crystal Arrow stuns Akali during approach and gives Ashe enough space to kite with Frost Shot.

    How to beat

Approach from fog or through minions so Volley and autos do not soften you before the engage. Bait or sidestep Arrow, then R onto her and keep a charge for when she Flashes or walks out of Twilight Shroud.

Later Akali dominates the isolated side-lane duel, while Ashe is stronger when protected by frontliners and using Arrow to start fights. In teamfights, avoid the front-to-back lane and flank after Arrow is shown or aimed elsewhere.

    • Do not chase in a straight line at max range; that is the easiest Arrow angle.
    • Twilight Shroud breaks her auto rhythm, but Volley can still tag your last position.
    • If Frost Shot is already on you, use R to close instantly instead of walking through the slow.
    BuyNinja TabiGuardian Angel
  • Blitzcrank

    BlitzcrankEven

Akali has enough damage to beat Blitzcrank, but Rocket Grab into Power Fist and Mana Barrier can flip the duel if she commits without tracking his shield.

Watch for Rocket Grab pulls Akali out of Twilight Shroud or into turret/team range and sets up Power Fist.

    How to beat

Fight around minions and do not stand at the shroud edge where Grab is obvious. If he misses Q, punish hard with Q-R-auto-E, but hold enough damage for after Mana Barrier appears rather than blowing everything into the shield.

Later Blitzcrank matters more as a pick champion than a side-lane duelist, and Akali should usually hunt the target he is protecting instead. In a pure duel she can win if she avoids Grab, but grouped fights punish visible, direct engages.

    • Mana Barrier makes low-health Blitzcrank much tankier than the health bar suggests.
    • Power Fist can interrupt your follow-through after Shadow Dance, so expect the knockup after you land.
    • Use shroud after Grab is down; using it before gives him a fixed area to fish.
    BuyQuicksilver SashMercury's Treads
  • Brand

    BrandEven

Brand can erase Akali if he lands his stun combo, but he is immobile and dies quickly when Sear or Pillar of Flame misses.

Watch for Sear stuns Akali when she is ablaze, stopping her all-in and guaranteeing the rest of Brand's burst.

    How to beat

Do not dash in after being tagged by Conflagration unless Sear is unavailable. Bait Pillar of Flame at the edge of its range, then enter from an angle, use shroud to deny follow-up targeting, and finish before Pyroclasm gets multiple clean bounces.

Later Brand's teamfight damage is much better if Akali dives into clustered targets, while Akali wins isolated picks when his stun is down. Split or flank to make Pyroclasm bounce poorly and force him to cast defensively.

    • Avoid fighting beside minions when Pyroclasm is ready; extra bounce targets punish you.
    • If Blaze is on you, assume Sear is lethal crowd control, not just poke.
    • Twilight Shroud can stall Conflagration targeting, but Pillar still hits the area.
    BuyBanshee's VeilMercury's TreadsHexdrinker
  • Cho'Gath

    Cho'GathUnfavoured

Cho'Gath is too durable to burst cleanly and his silence, knockup, sustain, and true-damage execute punish Akali's melee commitment.

Watch for Feral Scream silences Akali after she enters, preventing shroud, mark proc timing, or extra Shadow Dance casts.

    How to beat

Stay off predictable last-hit lines so Rupture is not free, and never dash in while Feral Scream is ready unless you are taking a very short trade. Proc Q, back out before Feast range becomes lethal, and re-enter only after silence or knockup is down.

Later Cho'Gath becomes a stronger side-lane wall and front-to-back teamfight body, while Akali's job shifts to bypassing him. Do not spend full combo into his health stack unless his carries are already dead or Feast is unavailable.

    • His passive sustain means tiny poke trades do not stick unless you can deny farm afterward.
    • Do not shroud inside his model; Feral Scream and Rupture still cover the area.
    • Track Feast execute range before taking a low-health spell-vamp duel.
    BuySpirit VisageBanshee's VeilMercury's Treads
  • Corki

    CorkiFavoured

Corki's mixed damage and Valkyrie give him one escape, but Akali can follow and kill him if she does not eat the full Gatling Gun trade first.

Watch for Valkyrie creates distance and a damaging trail that punishes Akali for chasing in a straight line.

    How to beat

Mark him before committing and angle your first R so Corki has to Valkyrie defensively, not over you. Once Valkyrie is down, follow with a second Shadow Dance and fight from shroud to deny clean autos and Missile Barrage aim.

Later Akali wins the isolated duel if she has charges, but Corki's poke and sustained mixed damage are better in protected teamfights. Flank from the side and wait for Valkyrie or frontline peel to be used before spending all dashes.

    • Do not stand in Gatling Gun for a full channel before your burst starts.
    • Phosphorus Bomb can reveal the shroud area, so move after he casts it.
    • If Corki Valkyries over a wall, your saved Shadow Dance charge is the difference between a kill and a failed chase.
    BuyBanshee's VeilGuardian Angel
  • Dr. Mundo

    Dr. MundoUnfavoured

Mundo's health, regeneration, cleaver slow, and Sadism make him very hard for Akali to finish in an equal-item duel.

Watch for Sadism restores enough health during Akali's burst window that her first all-in often runs out of damage.

    How to beat

Dodge Infected Cleaver before committing; getting slowed lets him kite you through Burning Agony while his health returns. Take repeated Q procs only when he cannot freely cleaver you, and disengage during Sadism unless you have healing reduction or a guaranteed kill.

Later Mundo usually controls the side lane once tank items are finished, while Akali is far better at killing his backline than trying to burn through him. In teamfights, ignore him unless he is already low or Sadism has been forced.

    • Do not confuse low Mundo health with kill range when Sadism is ready.
    • Twilight Shroud is useful to drop cleaver aim, but Burning Agony still punishes staying close.
    • Short trades matter only if you can stop his regeneration afterward.
    BuyExecutioner's CallingSpirit VisageRylai's Crystal Scepter
  • Evelynn

    EvelynnEven

The duel is a race between two assassins, with Akali's shroud and targeted dash fighting Evelynn's stealth opener and execute-style burst.

Watch for Agony's Embrace shields Evelynn and slows Akali, letting Evelynn survive the return burst and stay in melee.

    How to beat

Do not let Evelynn choose the first hit for free; stand near minions or vision and save Twilight Shroud for after Ravage. If she opens with ultimate early, wait out the shield inside shroud, then re-engage with Q mark and Shadow Dance when her slow has faded.

Later Both can threaten side-lane kills, but Evelynn's stealth makes her better at starting picks while Akali is better once a target is locked in a visible fight. Group with vision and use shroud to buy time when Evelynn appears first.

    • Pink vision and ward coverage matter more here than raw duel stats.
    • If Evelynn uses Dark Frenzy speed to leave, do not spend every R charge before her ultimate shield expires.
    • Twilight Shroud denies some follow-up autos but not Hate Spike lines through the area.
    BuySightstoneQuicksilver SashBanshee's Veil
  • Ezreal

    EzrealFavoured

Ezreal can kite with Arcane Shift, but Akali's repeated targeted dashes punish him once that escape is forced.

Watch for Arcane Shift creates the first gap and can make Akali waste a Shadow Dance charge if she commits too early.

    How to beat

Walk up with Q pressure and hold R until Ezreal either uses Arcane Shift or is close enough that one dash forces it. After he shifts, follow with Shadow Dance, shroud between Mystic Shot casts, and keep moving sideways so he cannot stack passive safely.

Later Akali wins the side-lane duel when she has charges, while Ezreal is safer in grouped poke fights. Flank instead of running through Mystic Shot lanes, and force Arcane Shift before using Gunblade-style slows or final R charges.

    • Do not chase directly behind minions; Mystic Shot cooldown refunds extend his kite.
    • If he uses Arcane Shift aggressively, punish immediately because his escape is gone.
    • Trueshot Barrage's channel is a free engage window if you are in range.
    BuyGuardian AngelNinja Tabi
  • Fiddlesticks

    FiddlesticksUnfavoured

Fiddlesticks' fear, silence, Drain, and Crowstorm punish Akali's need to stay close unless she interrupts the channel and times shroud well.

Watch for Terrify forces Akali to run during her all-in, giving Fiddlesticks time to Drain or sit in Crowstorm damage.

    How to beat

Do not start the duel inside Crowstorm or after Dark Wind has silenced you. Bait Terrify at the edge of range, then commit after it is down; if he starts Drain, break range with shroud movement or burst him before the heal overtakes your damage.

Later Fiddlesticks is much stronger around fogged teamfight entrances, while Akali is better in clean isolated fights where Crowstorm is not pre-channeled. Ward flanks, wait for fear or ultimate to hit someone else, then dive his backline rather than standing in the storm.

    • A hidden Crowstorm channel turns a winning duel into a losing one.
    • Dark Wind silence can stop the second half of your combo, especially near minions for bounces.
    • If Drain starts while you are feared, you usually need to reset instead of continuing blindly.
    BuyMercury's TreadsQuicksilver SashBanshee's Veil
  • Gangplank

    GangplankEven

Akali can outburst Gangplank, but Parrrley poke, Remove Scurvy sustain, and Cannon Barrage slow make messy extended fights risky.

Watch for Cannon Barrage slows the duel area and forces Akali to either fight in random damage or spend Shadow Dance charges escaping.

    How to beat

Do not let repeated Parrrley hits decide the fight before you engage; use shroud to deny follow-up autos after his pistol trade. Commit when Remove Scurvy is down or when he has used it for healing, then stay close enough that he cannot kite through Cannon Barrage for free.

Later Gangplank scales into stronger global teamfight pressure, while Akali remains better at forcing the direct kill if she reaches him with charges. In side lane, respect his crit burst and ultimate slow, but punish him hard when W is unavailable.

    • Remove Scurvy does not cleanse your damage, but the heal can move him out of execute range.
    • Do not chase through the center of Cannon Barrage if you can R to a better target or minion angle.
    • His passive poison keeps Perseverance-style resets impossible for you, so judge your health honestly.
    BuyNinja TabiGuardian Angel
  • Garen

    GarenUnfavoured

Garen's silence, spin damage, durability, and execute make him one of the worst melee stat-checks for Akali.

Watch for Decisive Strike silences Akali on contact, stopping Twilight Shroud or follow-up dashes while Judgment deals damage around her.

    How to beat

Do not dash into Garen while Q is active; back off, let the move speed and silence threat expire, then take a short mark proc trade. Use Twilight Shroud after silence ends to break his target access, and leave before Demacian Justice becomes lethal.

Later Garen is still favored in the side lane if he can force straight melee trades, while Akali has more backline threat in teamfights. Avoid spending your combo on him unless his silence and ultimate are down; use him as a distraction and kill carries instead.

    • Twilight Shroud does not stop Judgment damage if you sit beside him.
    • His passive rewards disengages unless you keep tagging him, but over-chasing gives him the silence trade he wants.
    • Track Demacian Justice range; spell vamp does not help after the execute lands.

  • Gragas

    GragasEven

Akali can kill Gragas if she dodges Body Slam, but his sustain, knockback, and burst punish any straight-line Shadow Dance engage.

Watch for Body Slam: stops your dash-in, slows you, and sets up Barrel Roll plus Explosive Cask disengage.

    How to beat

Hold just outside Body Slam range and tag him with Mark of the Assassin before committing. If he uses Body Slam to farm or misses it, Shadow Dance in, proc Q, then use Twilight Shroud to dodge the return barrel timing. Do not spend all R charges before Explosive Cask, because he can knock you out and reset the fight.

Later Finished Gragas is harder to burst and better in grouped fights because Explosive Cask can peel you off carries. In side lane Akali can still threaten him after his E or R is down, but in teamfights she should flank after Gragas has used Cask or Body Slam.

    • Do not stand on a primed Barrel Roll while waiting in Twilight Shroud.
    • Mark him before his Happy Hour sustain drags out the trade.
    • Save one Shadow Dance charge to follow after Explosive Cask displacement.

  • Heimerdinger

    HeimerdingerUnfavoured

Heimerdinger controls the ground Akali needs to dash through, and turrets turn her short trades into extended damage checks.

Watch for CH-1 Concussion Grenade: a direct hit stuns you in turret range and can make your engage unwinnable.

    How to beat

Do not duel him inside a turret nest; clear or avoid the turrets first, then look for a flank angle rather than walking at him. Bait Grenade with a fake step or minion approach, then Shadow Dance after it misses and burst him before rockets and turret shots stack up. If Grenade is available and two turrets are firing, back out.

Later Heimerdinger still wins prepared zones, but Akali is better at finding him during rotations. In teamfights, do not dive through his setup first; enter after Grenade is used or when he is displaced from his turrets.

    • Twilight Shroud does not stop turrets from owning the area around you.
    • Kill isolated turrets before committing to Heimer himself.
    • His rockets hit nearby targets, so minion positioning can soften his poke pattern.

  • Janna

    JannaFavoured

Janna can deny one engage, but alone she lacks the damage to beat Akali if her disengage cooldowns are forced first.

Watch for Monsoon: knocks you out of melee range and resets the duel after you spend Shadow Dance charges.

    How to beat

Open with Mark of the Assassin and walk forward until she spends Howling Gale or Zephyr before using R. Keep one Shadow Dance charge for after Monsoon or a tornado interrupt. If she shields and kites, wait out Eye Of The Storm rather than dumping burst into it.

Later Janna should not side-lane against Akali, but she is much more valuable in teamfights because she can peel your dive target. Akali should flank wide and wait for Monsoon or Howling Gale before committing to a carry.

    • Do not use all R charges before Monsoon.
    • Her shield can make your Q proc look weaker than expected, so delay burst when possible.
    • If Howling Gale is charging, approach from an angle instead of straight through it.
  • Jarvan IV

    Jarvan IVEven

Jarvan's armor shred and arena make the all-in dangerous, but Akali can outplay him with shroud timing and repeated Q procs.

Watch for Dragon Strike plus Demacian Standard: the knockup and armor shred give Jarvan the burst window before you can kite.

    How to beat

Avoid lining up with Demacian Standard once Dragon Strike is ready. Let him miss or spend the flag-drag, then mark him, dash in, proc Q, and use Twilight Shroud to break his follow-up autos. Inside Cataclysm, fight only if his knockup is down or you have enough charges to reposition after the walls drop.

Later Jarvan becomes harder to kill and has stronger teamfight initiation. Akali can pressure him in side lane if she avoids the full combo, but in grouped fights she should wait for Cataclysm to be used before diving backline.

    • Do not stand between Jarvan and his Standard.
    • Twilight Shroud is strongest after his passive auto, not before he has committed.
    • Cataclysm can trap you away from your next Shadow Dance target.

  • Jax

    JaxUnfavoured

Jax wins extended melee fights, and Counter Strike cuts off the auto attacks Akali needs to finish her burst pattern.

Watch for Counter Strike: dodges your basic attacks, reduces Crescent Slash damage, and stuns you if you stay in range.

    How to beat

Do not fight him while Counter Strike is active; mark him, step back into Twilight Shroud, and wait for the stun window to pass. Trade in short Q-proc bursts, then disengage before Grandmaster's Might attack speed stacks take over. Commit only when Counter Strike is down and you can kill before his next rotation.

Later Finished Jax usually owns the side lane if he can force long trades, while Akali has better backline access in chaotic fights. Avoid matching him in a pure split-push duel unless ahead; look to kill carries before Jax can peel or clean up.

    • Do not waste your Q proc into Counter Strike if you can wait it out.
    • Crescent Slash is also weakened during his defensive stance.
    • If he Leap Strikes onto you first, shroud immediately and deny the follow-up autos.

  • Karthus

    KarthusFavoured

Karthus has high damage if Akali stands in Defile, but he is immobile and vulnerable to repeated Shadow Dance bursts.

Watch for Wall of Pain: slows and shreds your resistances, making every Lay Waste and Defile tick hurt more.

    How to beat

Approach from outside minion waves so Lay Waste cannot freely hit you and the wave together. Dash in after he misses Q or places Wall of Pain poorly, burst, then use Twilight Shroud to force awkward Lay Waste guesses. Leave immediately after the kill if Death Defied is active; do not donate health to post-death Defile.

Later Akali wins the side-lane duel, but Karthus can still punish low-health exits with Requiem and contributes huge teamfight damage after dying. Kill him fast, then either Zhonya's his passive damage window or leave the area before helping the rest of the fight.

    • Do not stand still in Twilight Shroud; Karthus can still aim Lay Waste into it.
    • After killing him, count Death Defied as part of the fight.
    • Keep enough health to survive Requiem after disengaging.

  • Kassadin

    KassadinUnfavoured

Kassadin resists Akali's magic burst, silences her engage window, and can match her mobility with Riftwalk.

Watch for Null Sphere: silences you after you enter, delaying your Q proc, shroud, or follow-up Shadow Dance.

    How to beat

Do not open with a full all-in while Null Sphere is ready unless you can survive the silence. Try to mark him first, bait Q, then use Shadow Dance after the silence ends and force him to spend Riftwalk defensively. If he stacks Riftwalk damage and controls the spacing, reset instead of chasing blindly.

Later Kassadin scales into the stronger side-lane mage-assassin and is harder for Akali to pin down. In teamfights, Akali should hit targets Kassadin is not protecting and avoid entering first where Null Sphere can stop her combo.

    • His passive makes your magic burst less reliable than against other assassins.
    • Track Riftwalk stacks; chasing into a stacked jump can lose the duel.
    • Twilight Shroud can buy time through silence, but only if you cast it before Null Sphere lands.

  • Katarina

    KatarinaFavoured

Akali's single-target burst and shroud control usually beat Katarina unless Death Lotus is allowed to channel for free.

Watch for Death Lotus: punishes you if you stay in melee range without a way to leave or finish her.

    How to beat

Trade around Mark of the Assassin and do not let her get repeated free Bouncing Blade poke before the all-in. When she Shunpos in or uses it aggressively, burst her with Q proc and E, then step into Twilight Shroud to deny her clean target choice. If she channels Death Lotus and you cannot kill instantly, use Shadow Dance to a nearby target or move out of range.

Later Akali is stronger in the isolated duel, while Katarina can take over messy teamfights through Voracity resets. Save burst for Katarina after she commits, or kill a squishy before she can clean up.

    • Her Shunpo damage reduction makes the first moment after she jumps less ideal for dumping everything.
    • Do not group tightly with low-health allies when she has Death Lotus.
    • Twilight Shroud can break her target access, but it does not interrupt the channel by itself.

  • Kayle

    KayleUnfavoured

Kayle outranges Akali during Righteous Fury and can blank Akali's kill window with Intervention.

Watch for Intervention: makes your burst deal no damage during the exact window Akali needs to finish the duel.

    How to beat

Stay out of extended Righteous Fury range until you can mark her and force a real cooldown. Bait Intervention with a partial combo, then back into Twilight Shroud or disengage with a remaining Shadow Dance charge. Recommit only after invulnerability ends and Reckoning's slow is no longer controlling your movement.

Later Kayle becomes a stronger front-to-back teamfight champion and can protect either herself or Akali's target. Akali can still punish Kayle in side lane if Intervention is down, but in teamfights she should force the ultimate before using her last burst cooldowns.

    • Do not spend every Shadow Dance charge into Intervention.
    • Reckoning's slow makes walking out of Righteous Fury difficult, so respect it before engaging.
    • If she uses Divine Blessing for speed early, her kite after Intervention is weaker.

  • Kennen

    KennenUnfavoured

Kennen's ranged poke, repeated stuns, and Slicing Maelstrom make Akali's melee commit very risky.

Watch for Slicing Maelstrom: punishes your dive with repeated magic damage and Mark of the Storm stuns.

    How to beat

Avoid taking free Mark of the Storm stacks before you engage; two marks means he can often stun you as soon as you commit. Bait Lightning Rush or Thundering Shuriken, then dash in for a short Q proc and retreat into shroud before his passive stun completes. Do not all-in through Slicing Maelstrom unless you can instantly kill or Zhonya's the return damage.

Later Kennen is much stronger in grouped fights because his ultimate controls clustered targets. Akali can threaten him in side lane after Lightning Rush is down, but in teamfights she should enter after Slicing Maelstrom starts or ends, not as its first target.

    • Count Mark of the Storm stacks before every dash.
    • Twilight Shroud does not save you if the third mark is already guaranteed.
    • His Lightning Rush escape is the cooldown that makes him punishable.

  • Kog'Maw

    Kog'MawFavoured

Kog'Maw's damage is lethal if he gets space, but he has poor self-peel and dies quickly once Akali reaches him.

Watch for Void Ooze: slows the path you need to cross and gives Bio-Arcane Barrage time to shred you.

    How to beat

Do not walk through Void Ooze to start the fight; approach from the side or wait it out. Once Bio-Arcane Barrage is active, either commit immediately with Mark plus Shadow Dance or leave its range entirely. After killing him, move away from Icathian Surprise instead of chasing another target through the explosion.

Later Akali still wins the isolated duel if she gets onto him, but late Kog'Maw can melt teams from behind peel. In teamfights, Akali should flank around his frontline and save a dash for after he flashes or crosses his Ooze.

    • His W range changes the matchup; do not test him from the front while it is active.
    • Void Ooze is more dangerous as a disengage line than as raw damage.
    • Always exit after the kill before Icathian Surprise detonates.

  • Lee Sin

    Lee SinUnfavoured

Lee Sin reveals Akali in shroud, wins early physical burst trades, and can kick her out after she commits.

Watch for Tempest: reveals you through Twilight Shroud and removes the main way you stall his follow-up.

    How to beat

Do not rely on shroud if Tempest is available; bait it first or place shroud after he has used E. Dodge Sonic Wave before committing, because Resonating Strike gives him the execute and lets him follow your repositioning. Engage after Q or E is down, use short burst trades, and keep a dash for after Dragon's Rage.

Later Lee Sin falls off as a pure duelist compared with scaling carries, but he remains excellent at peeling Akali with Dragon's Rage. Akali can beat him later if she avoids the reveal and execute, while in teamfights she should wait for Lee to use kick before diving deep.

    • Twilight Shroud is not a safe zone while Tempest is ready.
    • If Sonic Wave lands, assume he can follow your next movement.
    • Dragon's Rage can kick you away from your marked target, so keep one R charge.

  • Leona

    LeonaFavoured

Leona has enough crowd control to delay Akali, but alone she lacks the damage to win unless Akali fights into Eclipse for too long.

Watch for Zenith Blade: catches you at range and chains into Shield of Daybreak and Solar Flare.

    How to beat

Sidestep Zenith Blade before taking the duel, then mark and punish while it is down. If she activates Eclipse, kite inside Twilight Shroud until the resist window and explosion pass rather than wasting your full combo into it. Save Shadow Dance for when she tries to walk out after her CC chain is spent.

Later Leona is not a side-lane threat to Akali, but her teamfight value is much higher because she can lock you down for her carries. Enter fights after Zenith Blade or Solar Flare has been used, or target a carry outside Leona's peel range.

    • Do not burst into Eclipse if you can wait two seconds.
    • Her passive does little in a true 1v1, so the danger is the CC chain, not Sunlight.
    • If Zenith Blade misses, she has no reliable way to keep you off her.

  • Lulu

    LuluUnfavoured

Lulu's polymorph, shield, slow, and Wild Growth deny Akali's burst window better than most supports.

Watch for Whimsy: polymorphs you during your engage, stopping casts and attacks while Lulu kites away.

    How to beat

Do not Shadow Dance straight at her while Whimsy is ready unless you are forcing it for a later engage. Tag her with Q, pressure forward, then back off when she shields or polymorphs and re-enter after those cooldowns. Commit hard only when Wild Growth is down or you have enough damage to force it without spending your last dash.

Later Lulu rarely wants the side-lane duel, but she is one of the best teamfight answers to Akali because she can save your target and disable you. Look for flanks onto targets outside Lulu's cast range, or wait until Whimsy and Wild Growth are used defensively elsewhere.

    • Polymorph stops both your burst and your ability to use shroud reactively.
    • Help, Pix! can reveal your position if Pix is attached near your shroud fight.
    • Wild Growth's knockup can interrupt your melee follow-through after Shadow Dance.

  • Lux

    LuxEven

Akali wins if she dodges Light Binding, but Lux can burst and kite her if the root lands before Akali reaches melee range.

Watch for Light Binding: roots you long enough for Lucent Singularity and Finales Funkeln to land before you can finish the engage.

    How to beat

Approach from angles, not through the minion line where Light Binding is easiest. Once Q is down, Shadow Dance in, proc Mark of the Assassin, and use Twilight Shroud to make her choose between retreating and guessing skillshots. If she holds Binding, pressure with mark threat until she panics or you can dash after it misses.

Later Lux is stronger in sieges and grouped fights, while Akali is stronger in isolated picks. In teamfights, do not dive through her binding lane; flank after she uses Q or force her to aim it away from your carries.

    • Light Binding can hit through one target, so hiding behind a single minion is not enough.
    • Lucent Singularity's slow can keep you from getting the Q proc if you dash too early.
    • Her shield can make a borderline all-in fail if you dump burst before it returns.

  • Malphite

    MalphiteUnfavoured

Malphite's shield, armor-stacking damage, attack-speed slow, and unstoppable engage make him difficult for Akali to kill in a fair duel.

Watch for Ground Slam: reduces your attack speed, cutting into Q-proc follow-up and sustained damage after you dive.

    How to beat

Break Granite Shield with Q poke before committing; do not start the all-in into a fresh shield. Wait for Ground Slam or Seismic Shard to be used, then take a short trade and retreat into Twilight Shroud before his cooldowns return. If Unstoppable Force is ready, keep enough health to survive the full knockup combo rather than chasing a low-percentage kill.

Later Malphite generally outvalues Akali in teamfights because Unstoppable Force starts fights and his tank stats blunt her burst. Akali should avoid long side-lane duels into armor-heavy builds and instead flank carries after Malphite has spent his ultimate.

    • Always remove Granite Shield before judging lethal damage.
    • Ground Slam hurts your passive auto follow-up more than it first appears.
    • Do not clump near your team while dueling around his Unstoppable Force angle.

  • Malzahar

    MalzaharUnfavoured

Malzahar is one of the worst pure duels for Akali because Nether Grasp stops her burst window and lets Null Zone and Malefic Visions tick while she cannot use shroud or dash charges defensively.

Watch for Nether Grasp suppresses Akali during her commit and turns her melee all-in into a stationary damage trade.

    How to beat

Stay outside his spell chain until he spends Call of the Void or Malefic Visions on the wave, then threaten with Q mark rather than instantly taking it. Do not use Shadow Dance as the first move while Nether Grasp is ready unless you can kill through it or have Quicksilver Sash. If he ults and fails to kill, re-enter with remaining R charges after the channel ends.

Later Finished Malzahar still wins the side-lane duel when his ultimate is up, but Akali is better at finding flank kills around him. In teamfights, wait for Nether Grasp to be used or force him to choose between suppressing you and stopping another diver.

    • Buy Quicksilver Sash if he is saving Nether Grasp only for you.
    • Twilight Shroud does not save you once Nether Grasp has started.

Watch for Alpha Strike dodges Akali's marked follow-up or Crescent Slash burst and can put Yi back on top of her.

    How to beat

Hold Q mark and shroud until he uses Alpha Strike, because committing first gives him the clean dodge. Fight in short bursts from Twilight Shroud, forcing him to guess where to attack instead of standing still for his autos. Commit fully only when Meditate is down or you have enough damage to break through it.

Later Late game Yi becomes more dangerous in a side lane if he survives Akali's first rotation, while Akali is better at deleting his backline before he resets. Do not duel him in an open lane with Highlander running unless he is already low.

    • Do not spend Crescent Slash into Meditate unless it secures the kill.
    • Twilight Shroud is your real defense because Highlander ignores slows, not stealth.

Miss Fortune has strong lane poke but no hard self-peel, so Akali wins once she gets onto her and avoids eating Bullet Time from the front.

Watch for Make It Rain slows Akali long enough for Miss Fortune to kite the first Shadow Dance charge.

    How to beat

Approach from fog or a side angle so Make It Rain is not between you and her. If she channels Bullet Time, use Shadow Dance to pass through or out of the cone instead of walking backward. Once her slow is down, chain Q mark, R, auto, and shroud to deny clean return autos.

Later Akali crushes Miss Fortune in side-lane isolation, but Miss Fortune's teamfight ultimate can decide fights before Akali enters. Flank late and make her cancel Bullet Time or die for channeling it.

    • Never chase straight down the Bullet Time cone.
    • Break Strut with Q before you commit so she cannot simply walk out.
    • Shroud after the first dash denies Impure Shots stacking cleanly.
    • She is much easier to kill when Make It Rain was used for waveclear.

Morgana can deny Akali's burst pattern with Dark Binding and Black Shield, but Akali wins if she baits those cooldowns before committing.

Watch for Black Shield absorbs Akali's magic burst and prevents her from relying on damage to force the kill immediately.

    How to beat

Do not all-in into an unused Black Shield; tag with Q, step back, and make her choose between shielding the mark pop or holding it. Dodge Dark Binding before using Shadow Dance, because getting rooted removes your shroud reposition window. If Soul Shackles starts, either kill fast or use R charges to leave tether range before the stun.

Later Neither wants a clean late side-lane duel unless Morgana has shield and ultimate ready; Akali has better pick pressure, while Morgana is stronger at denying dives in grouped fights. Wait for Black Shield to be used on a carry, then go elsewhere or re-enter after it falls.

    • Dark Binding hitting through your engage usually loses the trade outright.
    • Q mark pressure can force Black Shield without spending Shadow Dance.
    • Twilight Shroud helps dodge the second half of Soul Shackles if you break vision and move out.
    • Do not waste your full combo into Black Shield unless she is already killable.

Akali can punish Nasus early, but in an equal-item duel his lifesteal, Wither, Fury of the Sands, and stacked Siphoning Strike outlast her burst.

Watch for Wither cripples Akali's movement and attack speed, making it hard to kite or finish marked autos during the duel.

    How to beat

Take short trades before Fury of the Sands, using Q mark and shroud rather than standing in melee. If he uses Wither early, retreat into shroud and wait out the worst of it before spending more R charges. Do not fight him inside Spirit Fire with his ultimate running unless you are finishing a low-health Nasus.

Later Nasus wins most late side-lane duels and forces Akali to answer waves carefully. Akali should look for backline kills in teamfights and avoid wasting her full rotation into a raid-boss Nasus unless he is isolated and cooldowns are down.

    • Do not fight on Spirit Fire; the armor shred makes his Q trades much worse.
    • Fury of the Sands turns close all-ins into losses if you stay near him.

The duel is skill-based because Akali wins close-range burst, while Nidalee wins if spear, trap shred, and cougar disengage soften Akali before the commit.

Watch for Bushwhack reveals and shreds Akali's resistances, making Twilight Shroud less reliable and her all-in much easier to punish.

    How to beat

Do not approach through obvious trap lines or brush without checking spacing first. Sidestep Javelin Toss, then use the missed spear window to mark and dash before she can freely heal and kite. If she swaps cougar to fight, shroud after her first jump so she cannot line up a clean Takedown finish.

Later Late Nidalee is hard to pin down in side lanes, but Akali still wins if she catches her without distance or traps set. In teamfights, Akali should ignore long poke phases and flank once Nidalee has used heal or cougar mobility defensively.

    • A trapped Akali should usually disengage instead of forcing the duel.
    • Do not dash in after eating a long-range Javelin Toss.

    Nunu & WillumpUnfavoured

Nunu is difficult to kill in a fair duel because Ice Blast ruins Akali's chase and Consume-style sustain around minions or monsters lets him reset trades.

Watch for Ice Blast slows Akali's movement and attack speed, cutting off her ability to stick after Shadow Dance.

    How to beat

Fight away from minion waves and jungle camps so Consume cannot undo your poke. Bait Ice Blast first, then use Shadow Dance once the slow is gone rather than spending charges into it. If he starts Absolute Zero, leave the channel with R to a target or walk out immediately instead of trying to finish through the full burst.

Later Nunu rarely takes honest side-lane duels, but when tanky he can stall Akali and make her waste time. In teamfights, save mobility to escape Absolute Zero and kill the carries he is trying to Blood Boil.

    • Do not duel beside a minion wave if Consume is available.
    • Absolute Zero is only scary if you spend every dash before it starts.

    OlafUnfavoured

Olaf beats Akali in a straight all-in because Undertow keeps her in range, Reckless Swing ignores defenses, and Ragnarok prevents peel from mattering.

Watch for Reckless Swing deals repeated true damage, so Akali cannot outplay it with resistances or shroud trading alone.

    How to beat

Do not take an even-health brawl; poke with Q and only commit when he is already low. Dodge Undertow or fight where he cannot easily pick up axes, because chain axes remove your ability to reset. When Ragnarok is active, kite through shroud and terrain instead of trying to burst a full-health Olaf.

Later Olaf remains the stronger isolated duelist if he reaches Akali, especially with lifesteal active. Akali should avoid matching him deep in side lanes and instead flank teamfights after Olaf has used Ragnarok toward someone else.

    • His lower health is dangerous because Berserker Rage makes him hit faster.
    • Do not mistake shroud for safety if Undertow already slowed your exit path.
    • Reckless Swing makes health thresholds deceptive; leave earlier than usual.

Pantheon's targeted stun and early physical burst interrupt Akali's trade pattern, and Aegis Protection can block the key marked auto.

Watch for Aegis of Zeonia stuns Akali on entry and sets up Heartseeker Strike before she can use shroud properly.

    How to beat

Do not trigger Q mark into his passive block; strip Aegis Protection with a basic attack or wait for him to spend it. Bait Aegis of Zeonia at the edge of his range, then shroud or dash after the stun window is gone. Commit only when Heartseeker Strike is down or you can move behind him out of its cone.

Later Akali scales better into assassination, but Pantheon can still win a direct duel if he gets the stun-burst opener. In teamfights, track his point-and-click stun and avoid being the first target he sees.

    • His passive can block the auto that would detonate Mark of the Assassin.

Rammus is a poor target for Akali because Puncturing Taunt forces her to attack Defensive Ball Curl while his tank stats soak her burst.

Watch for Puncturing Taunt drags Akali out of control and makes her hit into Defensive Ball Curl's return damage.

    How to beat

Do not open with all charges while Defensive Ball Curl is ready; poke once and disengage if he curls. Save Twilight Shroud for after taunt ends so you can drop his follow-up Tremors damage and reset spacing. If he Powerballs in, sidestep the engage rather than meeting him in melee.

Later Rammus usually wins the side-lane standoff by being unkillable rather than killing instantly. In teamfights, Akali should ignore him unless he has already spent taunt and dive past him onto carries.

    • Never auto freely into Defensive Ball Curl just to pop Q mark.
    • Taunt can pull you out of shroud positioning if you cast too late.
    • Abyssal helps your damage more than armor does against his mixed tank pattern.
    • If Powerball misses, that is your only clean window to reposition past him.

  • Ryze

    RyzeUnfavoured

Ryze's targeted Rune Prison and low-cooldown spell rotation punish Akali every time she dashes in, especially once Desperate Power gives him spell vamp and speed.

Watch for Rune Prison roots Akali after Shadow Dance, denying her shroud reposition and letting Ryze unload a full rotation.

    How to beat

Hover just outside Rune Prison range until he uses it on a wave or another target, then enter immediately. Avoid fighting him inside minions during Desperate Power because his area damage and spell vamp swing the trade. If you cannot kill in one rotation, shroud to break follow-up targeting and wait for your next Q mark.

Later Ryze becomes a strong duelist and can beat Akali in side lanes if he survives the opener. Akali's job later is to flank from fog and force him to spend Rune Prison defensively before committing fully.

    • Do not dash first if Rune Prison is ready and he is not killable.
    • Desperate Power makes extended trades much worse for you.
    • Mercurial Scimitar or QSS can turn his root window into a punish window.
    • Avoid letting Spell Flux bounce between you and nearby units.

  • Shaco

    ShacoEven

Akali has stronger direct burst, but Shaco can turn the duel with Deceive angles, Jack In The Box fear, and Hallucinate confusion.

Watch for Jack In The Box fears Akali during her chase and gives Shaco the space to backstab or escape.

    How to beat

Do not chase blindly through narrow paths or brush where boxes are likely set. Force Deceive first with Q pressure, then hold Shadow Dance for when he reappears instead of spending every charge on the clone. If Hallucinate is active, identify the real Shaco by movement and damage taken before committing the rest of your burst.

Later Shaco is more dangerous through picks and traps than honest side-lane fighting, while Akali wins cleaner front-to-back assassination. Carry a way to reveal paths and avoid dueling him in prepared terrain.

    • Twilight Shroud can break his backstab rhythm if you move unpredictably inside it.
    • Do not blow your combo into Hallucinate clone unless the explosion is harmless or the real Shaco is gone.
    • Boxes punish straight-line chasing harder than most melee matchups.
    • Cutlass or Gunblade active helps after Deceive ends, not before.
    BuySightstoneTwin ShadowsBilgewater Cutlass
  • Shen

    ShenEven

Shen can blunt Akali's burst with Feint and Shadow Dash, but Akali can win if she avoids taunt and takes repeated short trades.

Watch for Shadow Dash taunts Akali and forces her to waste her damage window into Shen's shield and counter-trade.

    How to beat

Stand off-angle rather than directly in front of Shen so Shadow Dash is harder to line up. Poke with Q and wait out Feint before detonating the mark. If he channels Stand United in a duel, interrupt is not available, so either kill before the shield carries him out or immediately push the lane advantage.

Later Shen often does not need to beat Akali in side lane; he only needs to survive and join his team with Stand United. Akali should pressure him enough to force his ultimate defensively, then look for flanks when he leaves or when taunt is down.

    • Do not detonate Mark of the Assassin into Feint unless it secures lethal.
    • Side-step Shadow Dash before using your second R charge.
    • His global ultimate changes the map more than the duel.
    • Abyssal is useful when you need to punch through his MR while staying close.
    BuyAbyssal ScepterQuicksilver Sash
  • Singed

    SingedUnfavoured

Singed wins most honest duels by refusing to stand still, dragging Akali through Poison Trail, and using Fling to break her burst rhythm.

Watch for Fling throws Akali behind Singed, forcing her to chase through Poison Trail and losing control of spacing.

    How to beat

Do not chase him in a straight line; tag with Q, wait for him to turn, and punish only when Fling is unavailable or he is already low. Use Shadow Dance to reposition out of poison rather than simply following his path. If Insanity Potion is active, disengage unless you have a clear execute window.

Later Singed is the stronger side-lane nuisance because he clears and runs while Akali struggles to force a clean kill. In teamfights, ignore the chase bait and dive the carries after Singed has used Fling on someone else.

    • Following Poison Trail is how you lose even when you are ahead.
    • Mega Adhesive plus Fling can deny your second dash angle.
    • Do not all-in during Insanity Potion unless his health is already low.
    • Boots of Swiftness helps more than a small damage buy when he is only trying to kite.
    BuyBoots of SwiftnessSpirit VisageQuicksilver Sash
  • Sion

    SionUnfavoured

Sion's point-and-click stun and shield absorb Akali's first rotation, then Cannibalism and Enrage let him win the melee follow-up.

Watch for Cryptic Gaze stuns Akali on entry and gives Sion time to charge or pop Death's Caress safely.

    How to beat

Do not dash into him while Death's Caress is fresh; force the shield first, back away, then re-enter after it breaks or times out. Bait Cryptic Gaze at max range if possible, because the duel changes once the stun is down. If Cannibalism is active, kite through shroud rather than trading autos into his lifesteal.

Later Sion becomes very hard for Akali to kill alone and wins drawn-out side-lane fights if he gets to keep attacking. Akali should use mobility to bypass him and kill softer targets before he can lock her down.

    • Wait out Death's Caress instead of donating your full combo to the shield.
    • Cannibalism makes extended melee trades a trap.
    • Quicksilver Sash is valuable if Cryptic Gaze is the only thing stopping your kill.
    • Armor helps against his Enrage follow-up, but the stun timing matters more.
    BuyQuicksilver SashNinja TabiZhonya's Hourglass
  • Sivir

    SivirFavoured

Sivir can block one spell and kite briefly, but Akali has enough repeated gap closes and mixed burst to beat her after Spell Shield is baited.

Watch for Spell Shield can block Mark of the Assassin or Shadow Dance and deny Akali's clean engage timing.

    How to beat

Break Spell Shield with a low-commitment Q or wait until she uses it preemptively, then dash in after it falls. Avoid taking both passes of Boomerang Blade while closing. Use shroud after the first burst so Ricochet and On The Hunt autos do not turn the trade around.

Later Akali wins the isolated side-lane duel if she reaches Sivir without wasting Shadow Dance into Spell Shield. In teamfights, Sivir's On The Hunt can make her whole team kite you, so flank from fog rather than running through the front.

    • Do not spend your first Shadow Dance into an active Spell Shield.
    • Step sideways after committing so Boomerang Blade does not hit twice.
    • Her short range makes Q mark pressure easier than against most marksmen.
    • On The Hunt is strongest before you are in melee, not after shroud is down.
    BuyNinja TabiZhonya's Hourglass
  • Skarner

    SkarnerEven

Akali can outburst Skarner once his shield is down, but if he survives the first rotation his sustained Q spam and Impale can drag the duel back.

Watch for Impale suppresses Akali through Twilight Shroud and removes her ability to kite or finish on her own timing.

    How to beat

Do not open while Crystalline Exoskeleton is fresh; hit him once to break or wait out the shield, then use Mark of the Assassin and Shadow Dance when his speed is gone. Keep Twilight Shroud for after Impale or for the moment he tries to keep Crystal Slash contact, because standing beside him for a long trade favors him.

Later Finished Skarner is harder to kill in a side lane unless Akali is ahead, and in teamfights he is much more valuable if he can Impale her carry or Akali herself. Akali should flank after Impale is used or force Skarner to choose between peeling and suppressing her.

    • Do not waste full burst into Crystalline Exoskeleton; the shield also gives him the speed to stay on you.
    • If he starts Crystal Slash chaining, leave the circle instead of trading autos.
    • Quicksilver Sash changes the duel because it denies his guaranteed Impale lockdown.

  • Sona

    SonaFavoured

Sona can punish the first approach with Crescendo, but she is too fragile to survive Akali's repeated Shadow Dance access in an isolated duel.

Watch for Crescendo stuns Akali during her commit and can buy Sona enough time to kite or receive help.

    How to beat

Hold outside her 550 poke until you have Shadow Dance, then force Crescendo with the first dash or a short Q trade. Once Crescendo is down, re-enter immediately with Mark of the Assassin primed and use Twilight Shroud to deny her clean Power Chord target.

Later Sona should not be taking the side-lane duel, but her teamfight aura and Crescendo can decide fights before Akali reaches a carry. Akali wins isolated picks, while in 5v5 she should approach from an angle and avoid being the first champion hit by Crescendo.

    • Track Power Chord; the damage-reduction chord can blunt your burst if you all-in into it.
    • Do not clump with allies when diving her, because Crescendo is the real danger.
    • After Crescendo misses or is spent, she has no reliable self-peel.
    BuyMercury's TreadsBanshee's Veil
  • Soraka

    SorakaFavoured

Soraka's silence and healing delay Akali, but she lacks the damage or mobility to stop Akali from sticking once Shadow Dance is available.

Watch for Infuse silences Akali and can interrupt the spell chain needed to trigger Mark of the Assassin cleanly.

    How to beat

Bait Infuse with a short Q or first dash, then wait out the silence before committing the rest of the combo. Stay close enough that Starcall does not become free repeated poke, but do not let Wish and Astral Blessing trick you into overchasing under support backup.

Later Soraka still avoids the duel, but in teamfights her silence and Wish can ruin Akali's execute math. Akali should either kill Soraka before Wish matters or force Wish early, then swap to the actual carry.

    • Do not cast the rest of your burst into Infuse silence; let it expire first.
    • Her passive MR aura makes nearby allies noticeably harder to burst, so isolated Soraka is much easier than Soraka beside a carry.
    • Wish means a low-health target near Soraka may need one extra Shadow Dance charge.
    BuyMercury's TreadsMorellonomicon
  • Taric

    TaricEven

Taric is hard for Akali to burst through Shatter armor, healing, and Dazzle, but he usually cannot kill her quickly unless she stays in melee too long.

Watch for Dazzle stuns Akali on her engage and lets Taric land close-range damage while delaying her Mark proc.

    How to beat

Do not start the all-in from point-blank range, where Dazzle hits hardest and Taric gets his cleanest trade. Poke with Q, make him spend Dazzle or Shatter, then use Twilight Shroud to break the extended melee pattern after your Mark proc.

Later Taric's finished build makes him a poor side-lane target for Akali, but he still does not threaten her alone unless she commits badly. In teamfights, Akali should avoid opening into Dazzle and instead hit the carry after Taric uses stun or leaves peel range.

    • Shatter's armor makes your auto and E portions weaker, so do not judge the kill until it is down or expired.
    • If Dazzle is held, your first Shadow Dance is a bait, not the real all-in.
    • He wins time; you win if the fight stays isolated and his cooldowns are gone.
    BuyMercury's TreadsZhonya's Hourglass
  • Teemo

    TeemoEven

Akali can kill Teemo if she reaches him cleanly, but blind, poison, Move Quick, and mushrooms make the approach and chase dangerous.

Watch for Blinding Dart denies Akali's Mark proc auto attack and cuts a major part of her burst window.

    How to beat

Do not all-in immediately after he blinds you; Q him, wait out Blinding Dart, then Shadow Dance when the mark auto can actually land. Fight from brush or Shroud edges so he cannot simply kite in a straight line, and avoid chasing through unwarded mushroom paths.

Later In a clean side-lane duel Akali still threatens Teemo, but a trapped lane heavily favors him because mushrooms break her chase and soften her before contact. In teamfights, Akali should flank around mushroom lines and punish Teemo after Blinding Dart is spent on someone else.

    • A blinded Mark target is not a real burst window; delay the auto.
    • Twilight Shroud helps you wait out blind and poison ticks without giving him free autos.
    • If Move Quick is active, tag him first before spending multiple Shadow Dance charges.
    BuyMercury's TreadsBoots of SwiftnessBanshee's Veil
  • Tristana

    TristanaUnfavoured

Tristana has two strong displacement tools, so Akali often spends Shadow Dance charges just to regain contact instead of dealing uninterrupted damage.

Watch for Buster Shot knocks Akali out after her commit and can reset the spacing before Akali finishes the kill.

    How to beat

Do not spend all Shadow Dance charges before Rocket Jump and Buster Shot are accounted for. Mark first, force one escape with the initial dash, then hold a charge to follow Rocket Jump or re-enter after Buster Shot; Twilight Shroud should cover the gap between her peel tools, not start the fight.

Later Late Tristana's range makes the open side-lane approach worse for Akali, and in teamfights she is protected by jump, knockback, and front line. Akali needs flank angles and patience, entering after Buster Shot or when Tristana has already jumped aggressively.

    • If she still has Rocket Jump, one Shadow Dance charge is not enough to guarantee the kill.
    • Buster Shot can knock you out of Mark proc range; save a dash or Gunblade slow for after it.
    • Do not chase through minions while Rapid Fire is running unless her escape is down.

  • Tryndamere

    TryndamereUnfavoured

Akali can win the first health bar, but Undying Rage lets Tryndamere ignore her execute window and punish her during the forced wait.

Watch for Undying Rage prevents death during Akali's burst window and turns her cooldown downtime into his kill window.

    How to beat

Trade in short Q-auto bursts and use Twilight Shroud to deny his autos rather than trying to stat-check him. Commit only after Spinning Slash is down or when you can force Undying Rage without spending every Shadow Dance charge, then kite the ultimate with Shroud and re-engage as it ends.

Later Tryndamere is favored in the finished side lane because he shreds towers and wins long melee fights if Akali cannot disengage his ultimate. Akali is stronger at deleting backline targets in teamfights, so she should not be dragged into matching his split push without vision and cooldown advantage.

    • Never use your last Shadow Dance charge before Undying Rage is forced.
    • Twilight Shroud is for his ultimate timer, not just for the opening trade.
    • If he has high Fury, treat every auto as a real burst threat.

  • Twisted Fate

    Twisted FateFavoured

Twisted Fate can stun once with Gold Card, but he is too immobile and fragile to survive Akali once Pick A Card is down or baited.

Watch for Gold Card from Pick A Card stuns Akali and can stop her first Shadow Dance engage.

    How to beat

Hover just outside his attack range while he cycles Pick A Card, then back off if Gold Card is locked. Once he throws it or picks the wrong card, dash in with Mark of the Assassin and keep Twilight Shroud between his Wild Cards angle and your next proc.

Later Twisted Fate avoids the duel by using Destiny and Gate to create map plays, while Akali wins the direct side-lane fight if she finds him. In teamfights, she should punish him after Gold Card is used, because his reveal and slow are annoying but not enough peel by themselves.

    • Do not dash into a visible Gold Card unless you have a clear reason to trade cooldowns.
    • Destiny reveals you, so Twilight Shroud is less reliable during his ultimate window.
    • If he uses Gate near you without backup, hold Shadow Dance for his arrival point.

  • Twitch

    TwitchFavoured

Twitch's damage is lethal if he opens first from stealth, but in a fair 1v1 Akali reaches him and kills him before his poison stacks decide the fight.

Watch for Ambush lets Twitch choose the opening and start stacking Deadly Venom before Akali has target access.

    How to beat

Do not face-check likely Ambush angles; force him to reveal with minions, wards, or by holding a defensive Shroud when he disappears. Once visible, use Shadow Dance immediately before Venom Cask creates distance, and finish before Expunge reaches full-stack value.

Later Late Twitch can destroy teamfights with Spray and Pray if Akali enters from the front, but he remains vulnerable to flank assassination. In side lane Akali wins when she sees him first; Twitch wins when Ambush gives him the first several hits for free.

    • Count poison stacks; if he has built too many before you touch him, Shroud and reset.
    • Spray and Pray pierces through clustered allies, so do not chase him in a straight teamfight line.
    • A revealed Twitch without Ambush speed is one of Akali's cleaner marksman kills.

  • Vayne

    VayneUnfavoured

Vayne's Condemn, Tumble repositioning, and Final Hour invisibility make it difficult for Akali to keep the continuous contact she needs.

Watch for Condemn knocks Akali away and can stun her against terrain, breaking the all-in outright.

    How to beat

Fight away from walls whenever possible, because wall Condemn is the losing condition. Open with Q and only commit with Shadow Dance after Tumble or Condemn is forced; if Final Hour is active, use Twilight Shroud to stall her invisibility windows instead of guessing blindly.

Later Finished Vayne is favored in the side lane if she has space and terrain to kite, while Akali can still win from fog or with a perfect flank. In teamfights, Akali should not be first into Vayne's peel; wait for Condemn or Tumble to be used, then spend charges to stay attached.

    • Do not duel her beside walls, jungle corners, or turret terrain.
    • Final Hour Tumble can waste your next targeted action; hold damage until she reappears.
    • If Condemn is down, she becomes much more killable before the cooldown returns.
    BuyNinja TabiRanduin's OmenZhonya's Hourglass
  • Veigar

    VeigarEven

Akali kills Veigar quickly if she gets past Event Horizon, but one stun into Primordial Burst can delete her because her AP scaling makes his ultimate hit harder.

Watch for Event Horizon controls the space around Akali and sets up Dark Matter plus Primordial Burst if she crosses the edge.

    How to beat

Do not dash blindly into the cage perimeter; either wait outside, dash to a target already inside safely, or use Shroud to stall until the stun threat fades. Once Event Horizon is down, commit immediately because Veigar has little protection against repeated Shadow Dance charges.

Later Late Veigar can one-shot Akali if he catches her, but he remains very vulnerable when Event Horizon is missed or used on someone else. Akali should flank from angles that force him to cage defensively, then enter after the cage is spent.

    • Primordial Burst scales off your AP, so your own snowball makes his punish stronger.
    • Abyssal or MR buys matter more here than generic damage if he can kill you in one rotation.
    • Do not chase through the cage edge for a Mark proc; wait and keep the mark timer in mind.
    BuyBanshee's VeilMercury's TreadsAbyssal Scepter
  • Warwick

    WarwickUnfavoured

Warwick's sustain and suppress make long duels bad for Akali, and Infinite Duress can lock her down before she finishes her burst.

Watch for Infinite Duress suppresses Akali and deals damage while preventing Shroud, dashes, and Mark follow-up.

    How to beat

Take short trades only: Q-auto, E if safe, then leave before Hungering Strike and passive healing outvalue you. If Infinite Duress is available, keep enough health to survive it or have Quicksilver Sash; after it is down, Akali can actually play the cooldown dance.

Later Warwick is favored in isolated extended side-lane fights, especially with tank and sustain items, while Akali has better access to enemy carries in messy teamfights. She should avoid being the Duress target and enter after Warwick commits his suppression.

    • Do not stand and auto through his sustain; he wants that fight.
    • Blood Scent makes low-health escapes unreliable, so reset before you are marked and chased.
    • Quicksilver Sash is the single biggest swing against his ultimate.

  • Wukong

    WukongEven

Wukong's burst and Cyclone can punish Akali hard, but Akali can win if she does not waste damage into Decoy and controls the re-engage with Shroud.

Watch for Decoy makes Akali lose target access and can bait her Mark proc or Shadow Dance into the clone timing.

    How to beat

Do not instantly fire the second part of your trade when Wukong stops moving; wait for Decoy to reveal itself before committing more charges. Let him use Nimbus Strike or Crushing Blow first, then answer inside Twilight Shroud where his auto-based follow-up is less reliable.

Later Finished Wukong offers stronger teamfight initiation with Cyclone, while Akali remains better at cleaning up isolated targets. In side lane the duel stays playable, but Akali must avoid eating full Cyclone while her Shroud is misplaced.

    • If he suddenly stands still after your engage, assume Decoy until proven otherwise.
    • Cyclone can hit you through Shroud if he spins through the area, so do not hide in the center.
    • After Nimbus Strike is down, he has fewer ways to keep contact when you leave Shroud.

  • Zilean

    ZileanEven

Akali can reach and kill Zilean, but Time Warp and Chronoshift can deny the kill window and force her to spend too many resources twice.

Watch for Chronoshift revives Zilean after Akali commits, often wasting her burst and Shadow Dance charges.

    How to beat

Do not dump every charge into him if Chronoshift is available; force the ultimate with a controlled combo, then back off or Shroud until the revive resolves. If he uses Time Warp to slow you before the all-in, wait it out unless you have enough charges to stick through the speed gap.

Later Zilean rarely wants the side-lane duel, but in teamfights Chronoshift can erase Akali's assassination and swing the fight. Akali should threaten him or his carry to force Chronoshift early, then kill the unprotected target after the revive cooldown is gone.

    • Time Bomb follows the target, so Shroud does not remove the delayed explosion threat.
    • Do not celebrate the first kill animation; Chronoshift means the real fight starts after revive.
    • If he burns Time Warp as a speed boost for himself, your next Shadow Dance is much more valuable.
