Magic penetration marks are for Dark Binding and Tormented Soil, both of which deal magic damage and scale with AP. Armor seals cover auto-attack harass and jungle pressure, MR glyphs stabilize mage lanes, and AP quints strengthen early waveclear and bind damage.
This is a legal 21/0/9 AP mid page: offense reaches Executioner without wasting a point on Spellsword, and utility has 8 points above row 2 before taking Runic Affinity. Runic Affinity is standard because Season 3 mid Morgana expects blue buff.
Skill order
ultimate at 6, 11 and 16Soul Siphon
- Dark Binding (Q) takes points at levels 2, 8, 10, 12, 13.
- Tormented Soil (W) takes points at levels 1, 4, 5, 7, 9.
- Black Shield (E) takes points at levels 3, 14, 15, 17, 18.
- Soul Shackles (R) takes points at levels 6, 11, 16.
Max W first for lane shove and safe farming, then Q for pick damage and root uptime, leaving E for later ranks after one early safety point. The first three points give waveclear, binding threat, and Black Shield protection before committing fully to Soil.
Alternative — Max Q before W only in lanes where you cannot safely stand forward to Soil waves and need long-range bind threat for jungle setup.

Doran's Ring start — Default mid start when you want AP, health, and enough mana sustain to control the first waves.
Flask sustain start — Use into poke or difficult lanes where repeated health and mana refills matter more than early AP.
Boots sustain start — Use against skillshot-heavy lanes where movement speed helps dodge and keep Black Shield for committed trades.

1Rod of Ages2,800gRod of Ages gives Morgana the health, mana, and scaling AP she wants while farming toward mid-game fights.
2Zhonya's Hourglass3,260gZhonya's Hourglass is essential because Soul Shackles asks Morgana to enter the enemy team and survive while the second hit arms.
3Rabadon's Deathcap3,300gRabadon's Deathcap turns her high AP ratios on Dark Binding, Black Shield, and Soul Shackles into real late-game threat.
Situationalonly when the game asks for it

Abyssal Scepter2,560gBuy Abyssal Scepter when both teams are fighting in close range and the enemy mid or AP threat is significant.

Banshee's Veil2,750gBuy Banshee's Veil when one long-range engage or pick spell decides whether you can enter a fight.

Mikael's Crucible2,500gBuy Mikael's Crucible when your team needs a second cleanse effect for a carry and you are sacrificing damage for utility.

Morellonomicon2,200gBuy Morellonomicon when you need cooldown reduction and Grievous Wounds against heavy healing.

Twin Shadows1,900gBuy Twin Shadows when your team lacks reliable face-checking and needs help starting picks before objectives.

Magic penetration marks improve Dark Binding, Tormented Soil, and Soul Shackles, all of which deal magic damage and use AP ratios. Armor seals cover lane autos, MR glyphs protect against support poke, and gold quints fit Season 3 support income.
This is a 0/9/21 support page: defense gives lane durability, while utility supplies Flash cooldown, mana sustain, gold income, extra starting gold, free vision, and movement speed. Artificer is valuable because Morgana support leans on Shurelya's, Mikael's, and ward-item actives.
Skill order
ultimate at 6, 11 and 16Soul Siphon
- Dark Binding (Q) takes points at levels 1, 4, 5, 7, 9.
- Tormented Soil (W) takes points at levels 3, 14, 15, 17, 18.
- Black Shield (E) takes points at levels 2, 8, 10, 12, 13.
- Soul Shackles (R) takes points at levels 6, 11, 16.
Max Q first for the longer, harder-hitting catch spell, then E for a stronger and lower-cooldown Black Shield. Early E at level 2 protects the lane from disables; one W point gives brush checking and minor wave control.
Alternative — Max E before Q against lanes where shielding crowd control is more important than landing bindings, such as Blitzcrank, Leona, or Taric engage lanes.

Wealth ward start — With Wealth mastery, start Faerie Charm, 3 Sight Wards, 1 Vision Ward, 2 Health Potions, and Yellow Trinket when your lane needs standard river/brush control.
Regen heavy ward start — With Wealth mastery, take Rejuvenation Bead plus Faerie Charm, 3 Sight Wards, one Health Potion, one Mana Potion, and Yellow Trinket when you expect sustained poke and want components for Philosopher's Stone.

1Philosopher's Stone700gPhilosopher's Stone is the support income and sustain base that later turns into Shurelya's Reverie.
2Sightstone800gSightstone is mandatory Season 3 support economy, replacing repeated ward buys with refillable vision.
3Shurelya's Reverie2,100gShurelya's Reverie gives health, regen, CDR, and the engage or disengage speed active Morgana needs to land Soul Shackles.
4Mikael's Crucible2,500gMikael's Crucible adds mana sustain and a cleanse active for carries when Black Shield is down or broken.
Situationalonly when the game asks for it

Locket of the Iron Solari2,225gBuy Locket of the Iron Solari when the enemy team has heavy AoE burst and your team needs a cheaper defensive active before larger aura items.

Twin Shadows1,900gBuy Twin Shadows when your team needs help finding picks before objectives or checking fog without face-checking.

Banner of Command2,360gBuy Banner of Command when games slow into siege patterns and your team benefits from empowered side-lane pressure.

Aegis of the Legion2,150gBuy Aegis of the Legion first if your team needs the armor/MR aura early but you cannot yet afford Runic Bulwark.

Abyssal Scepter2,560gBuy Abyssal Scepter only when you are ahead, fighting at Soul Shackles range, and your team has multiple magic damage threats.

Zhonya's Hourglass3,260gPrioritize Zhonya's Hourglass when you must Flash-R into the enemy team and need stasis to survive the second Soul Shackles hit.

AhriEven
Morgana can erase Ahri's pick threat with Black Shield, but Ahri's range and Spirit Rush make landing Binding or completing Soul Shackles difficult.
Watch for Spirit Rush lets Ahri dodge Dark Binding and leave Soul Shackles before the stun lands.
How to beat
Hold just outside Charm range and do not spend Black Shield until Charm is actually coming or Ahri dashes forward. Use Tormented Soil to punish her last-hits, then look for Dark Binding after she uses Spirit Rush charges aggressively or after Orb of Deception locks her path. Commit with Soul Shackles only when at least one dash is down or she has been Bound first.
Later Ahri is stronger at catching side-lane targets, while Morgana is stronger in grouped fights because Black Shield denies Charm picks and Soul Shackles punishes dives. Do not chase Ahri through fog; group, shield the carry she wants to charm, and force her to dash defensively.
- Black Shield blocks Charm's disable, but Orb return true damage still hurts once the shield is gone.
- Casting Soul Shackles before Ahri uses Spirit Rush usually lets her dash out for free.
- Binding is easiest when Ahri is returning to catch Orb of Deception's second hit.
- If Ahri uses Spirit Rush forward for damage, immediately shield yourself and turn with R.

AkaliEven
Morgana wins if she roots Akali before the reset chase starts, but Akali can dodge through her and use Twilight Shroud to break Morgana's target access.
Watch for Twilight Shroud denies clean targeting and buys time for Mark of the Assassin and Shadow Dance charges.
How to beat
Keep minions between you when possible and save Dark Binding until Akali commits with Shadow Dance rather than throwing it at max range. Drop Tormented Soil over Twilight Shroud to keep damaging her and revealing her position by health movement, then Soul Shackles once she has used a dash inward. Black Shield does not stop most of her damage, so use it for slow or crowd-control protection only if another threat is present.
Later Akali becomes the better isolated side-lane killer if she can find angles through fog, while Morgana is better grouped because Black Shield and binding zones make dives risky. Stay with teammates, ward flanks, and punish Akali when she has to enter the backline.
- Tormented Soil on Twilight Shroud is your best way to make the shroud less safe.
- Do not open with Soul Shackles while Akali still has multiple Shadow Dance charges and room to leave.
- Binding after her first Shadow Dance is much more reliable than binding before she commits.
- Akali's burst is mostly magic, so early magic resist changes the duel heavily.

AlistarFavoured
Black Shield removes Alistar's engage pattern, and Morgana can kite his low sustained damage unless he uses Unbreakable Will to walk away.
Watch for Headbutt plus Pulverize is his only real way to force you into melee and interrupt your cast flow.
How to beat
Stand at binding range and keep Black Shield for the Headbutt-Pulverize attempt, not for Trample damage. Once he spends either crowd-control spell into shield or misses Headbutt, root him and place Tormented Soil under his large hitbox. Do not waste full burst into Unbreakable Will unless you are using it only to force him out.
Later Alistar is rarely a true side-lane duel threat, but he is dangerous in teamfights if Black Shield is late. Morgana should track his flash-engage angle, shield the target he wants, and counter-engage after Unbreakable Will is committed.
- Black Shield can turn his combo into him delivering himself into your Binding range.
- Dark Binding is easy to land after Headbutt if he knocks you away in a straight line.
- Do not chase through Unbreakable Will; wait out the damage reduction.
- If he uses Pulverize on a teammate, Soul Shackles can punish the follow-up body block.

AmumuEven
Morgana can block Amumu's first stun and kite him, but if Black Shield is down he locks her in place long enough for Despair and Curse of the Sad Mummy to win the trade.
Watch for Bandage Toss starts the fight and, if Black Shield is unavailable, guarantees Amumu gets into Curse of the Sad Mummy range.
How to beat
Hold max spell range and make Amumu spend Bandage Toss before you walk forward for Soul Shackles. Black Shield the Bandage Toss impact or his ultimate, then root him during the cooldown and keep Tormented Soil under him while backing away. If he reaches you with Despair running and shield down, disengage instead of trying to drain-tank him.
Later Amumu is not a clean side-lane killer, but his teamfight engage is stronger if he finds multiple targets. Morgana's job is to shield the carry or herself before Curse of the Sad Mummy lands, then counter-root him after he commits.
- Black Shield is better saved for Bandage Toss or Curse, not random Despair damage.
- If Amumu misses Bandage Toss, he has no reliable way to force Morgana to stay near him.
- Soul Shackles after his Bandage Toss is down makes it much harder for him to leave the tether.
- Liandry's is valuable because Amumu must sit in your damage to fight.

AniviaUnfavoured
Anivia outranges and out-zones Morgana, and Rebirth means Morgana often has to win the duel twice without enough burst to finish the egg safely.
Watch for Flash Frost threatens a stun that sets up Frostbite and gives Anivia control of the trade distance.
How to beat
Stay off the minion line where Flash Frost can hit you while farming, and use Black Shield for the stun rather than the first tick of Glacial Storm. Look for Binding when Anivia has just used Flash Frost or is locked into controlling her ultimate zone. Do not commit Soul Shackles unless her wall is down or you have a clean path to stay attached.
Later Anivia usually wins side-lane control through waveclear, wall, and egg safety, while Morgana is easier to execute in grouped fights. Clear waves, avoid being walled off from your team, and save Black Shield for Flash Frost picks or wall-forced engages.
- Black Shield stops the Flash Frost stun but not all of Anivia's follow-up damage if it breaks.
- Crystallize can cut your Soul Shackles path and break the tether without Anivia flashing.
- Do not spend everything into Rebirth unless you can also kill the egg.
- Binding is best after Anivia commits Glacial Storm and wants you to stand in it.

AnnieUnfavoured
Morgana can block Annie's stun, but Annie's longer attack range and instant Tibbers burst punish any missed Black Shield timing.
Watch for Pyromania charged into Summon: Tibbers gives Annie instant area stun and burst before Morgana can control the fight.
How to beat
Track Annie's stun counter and back up when she can threaten Flash-Tibbers or instant Disintegrate stun. Black Shield before the stun spell lands, then answer with Binding while Tibbers is being cast or Annie is walking forward. If shield is down, do not enter her burst range just to fish for Soul Shackles.
Later Annie remains the more explosive pick and flank threat, but Morgana scales better as a defensive teamfight support. Stay grouped, shield the Tibbers target before impact, and punish Annie after her stun stack is spent.
- Annie's auto range is longer, so do not take free poke while waiting for Binding.
- Black Shield must be up before Tibbers lands; reacting late loses the duel.
- A stunned Annie after Tibbers is much easier to kill than an Annie holding stun.
- Mikael's helps in teams, but it cannot replace preemptive Black Shield on the initial Tibbers hit.

AsheEven
Morgana can kill Ashe if Binding lands, but Ashe's range, constant slows, and Enchanted Crystal Arrow make missed skillshots very punishing.
Watch for Enchanted Crystal Arrow starts the all-in and gives Ashe enough time to kite with Frost Shot.
How to beat
Stay behind minions for Volley and save Black Shield for Enchanted Crystal Arrow or the first slow chain when you are committing. Walk in and out of Ashe's attack range to bait Volley, then Binding her during its recovery or when she steps forward for Frost Shot. Once she is rooted, use Tormented Soil immediately and only ult if you can stay attached through her slows.
Later Ashe is the stronger sustained side-lane duelist if she has room to kite, while Morgana is better in grouped fights at denying arrow picks. Shield the arrow target, force Ashe to fight through Binding zones, and avoid long chases in open lanes.
- Black Shield blocks the arrow stun but can be broken by follow-up magic damage before the fight ends.
- Boots of Swiftness specifically reduce how oppressive Frost Shot kiting feels.
- Binding from brush is much more valuable than trading autos into Ashe's range.
- Do not ult from max tether range if Ashe still has Flash and open space.

BlitzcrankFavoured
Black Shield directly counters Rocket Grab and Power Fist, leaving Blitzcrank with too little damage to beat Morgana alone.
Watch for Rocket Grab pulls Morgana into melee and normally guarantees Power Fist plus Static Field burst.
How to beat
Stand where Rocket Grab is the only way he can reach you and hold Black Shield for the hook animation. If the hook hits shield or misses, root him during the recovery and drop Tormented Soil while backing away from Power Fist range. Do not waste shield early on Static Field poke if Rocket Grab is still available.
Later Blitzcrank's side-lane threat is mostly catching someone, not dueling, and Morgana is one of the best answers in teamfights. Keep shield ready for his hook target and punish his team when he pulls a shielded champion into engage range.
- A shielded Rocket Grab can turn Blitzcrank's pick into your counter-engage.
- If Blitzcrank holds hook, you can safely control space with Binding from behind minions.
- Black Shield also blocks Power Fist's knockup if he reaches you.
- Mana Barrier can bait lethal, so keep Tormented Soil ticking after his shield appears.

BrandUnfavoured
Brand has higher raw damage and multiple ways to break Black Shield before his stun or Pyroclasm finishes the duel.
Watch for Sear after Blaze stuns Morgana and gives Brand the full Pillar of Flame and Pyroclasm sequence.
How to beat
Avoid standing in minions where Conflagration and Pyroclasm bounce value increases, and use Black Shield only when Sear stun or lethal burst is coming. Bait Pillar of Flame with side movement, then fish Binding while Brand's delayed spell is down. You need a root first; walking in for Soul Shackles without Brand's stun checked usually loses.
Later Brand remains stronger in raw grouped damage, especially if your team clumps, while Morgana is better at preventing single-target crowd control. Spread before Pyroclasm, shield the Sear target, and use Binding to punish Brand's immobile casting windows.
- Black Shield can be burned off by Blaze-enhanced damage before it blocks Sear if timed lazily.
- Do not duel Brand inside a minion wave when Pyroclasm is available.
- Binding after he casts Pillar of Flame is your cleanest punish window.
- Abyssal or Banshee's changes whether you survive his full rotation.

Cho'GathEven
Morgana can kite Cho'Gath and block his knockup or silence, but if he reaches Feast range after shield breaks his true damage ends the duel quickly.
Watch for Feral Scream silences Morgana, preventing Black Shield, Binding, or Soul Shackles at the exact moment Cho'Gath walks into Feast range.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Cho'Gath must land Rupture before he can use Feral Scream. Shield either Rupture's knockup or the silence, then root him and move out while Tormented Soil burns his large hitbox. Commit only after Feral Scream is down, because silence during Soul Shackles can stop your follow-up and let him Feast.
Later Cho'Gath becomes harder for Morgana to kill in side lanes as Feast stacks and health items build up, but Morgana remains more valuable at protecting carries. In teamfights, shield the target threatened by Rupture or silence and use Binding to keep Cho'Gath away from Feast range.
- His model makes Binding easier, but his health pool makes one rotation rarely enough.
- Black Shield does not help against Feast's true damage, so do not rely on it at low health.
- Rupture's delay gives you a fair dodge window if you are not already silenced.
- Liandry's is one of the few specific buys that meaningfully pressures him.

CorkiUnfavoured
Corki can dodge Binding with Valkyrie and wins extended trades through mixed damage and repeated missiles.
Watch for Valkyrie denies Morgana's root or Soul Shackles tether while repositioning Corki for continued damage.
How to beat
Use minions to block Missile Barrage splash angles and do not throw Binding until Valkyrie is down or Corki is forced to last-hit in a narrow path. Black Shield only covers part of his mixed damage, so treat it as protection from magic burst rather than a full defensive answer. If he Valkyries aggressively, root his landing zone and ult immediately while his escape is unavailable.
Later Corki is the better side-lane and sustained damage champion, while Morgana contributes more by locking space and shielding carries in 5v5s. Avoid isolated long lanes, force fights around terrain, and save Binding for Corki after Valkyrie.
- Black Shield does not stop Corki's basic attack true damage or Gatling Gun's physical damage.
- Binding at Corki before Valkyrie is mostly a cooldown trade in his favor.
- If Corki Valkyries over you, place Tormented Soil on his landing path, not where he started.
- Armor alone is not enough because his damage profile is mixed.

Dr. MundoUnfavoured
Mundo shrugs off poke with regeneration, punishes Morgana with repeated cleavers, and can outlast her unless she has anti-heal and sustained burn.
Watch for Sadism restores enough health during the fight to invalidate Morgana's first rotation and let Mundo keep walking forward.
How to beat
Stay behind minions to deny Infected Cleaver and never let him start the chase for free. Root him after he misses Cleaver, then kite backward through Tormented Soil rather than standing still to finish Soul Shackles. Save ignite or anti-heal timing for Sadism; without it, disengage once he activates the ultimate unless he is already trapped low.
Later Mundo is much stronger in side-lane attrition and can ignore Morgana if she lacks burn or healing reduction, but Morgana is better at protecting carries from his run-down. In teams, bind him as he enters, shield the carry from slows where relevant, and layer Liandry's or Morellonomicon damage onto his health bar.
- Black Shield is not a real answer to Mundo because his cleaver slow is only part of the problem.
- Do not ult a full-health Mundo with Sadism ready unless your team can finish him.
- Morellonomicon matters specifically when you can tag him below 40% during Sadism.
- Liandry's gets strong value because Mundo must walk through your zones.

EvelynnEven
Morgana can punish Evelynn's melee commit with Binding and Soul Shackles, but Evelynn's stealth approach often gives her the first hit.
Watch for Shadow Walk lets Evelynn choose the engage angle and start close enough for Ravage and Agony's Embrace before Morgana has spacing.
How to beat
Play near wards and minions so Evelynn cannot appear directly behind you without warning. When she opens, Black Shield immediately to absorb magic burst and prevent the slow from Agony's Embrace, then Binding her as she follows in melee range. If she uses Dark Frenzy movement to disengage before your tether finishes, do not chase into fog.
Later Evelynn is better at isolated picks and flank pressure, while Morgana is better in grouped fights where stealth angles are narrowed. Keep vision on approaches, shield the target she jumps, and turn with Soul Shackles once she is forced to stay in melee.
- Twin Shadows is specifically useful because it can check stealth approaches before Evelynn commits.
- Binding is easier after Evelynn reveals than before; do not panic-fire into empty fog.
- Black Shield can block Agony's Embrace slow, which is often what lets her stay on you.
- Stay near minion waves so Hate Spike paths are more predictable.

EzrealUnfavoured
Ezreal's mobility and long-range poke let him avoid Binding and slowly win unless Morgana catches Arcane Shift on cooldown.
Watch for Arcane Shift dodges Dark Binding or exits Soul Shackles while still damaging Morgana.
How to beat
Stand behind minions to block Mystic Shot and make Ezreal spend Arcane Shift defensively before you commit. Throw Binding where he wants to Shift after he uses it aggressively, not at his current position while it is available. Black Shield helps against Essence Flux and Trueshot Barrage damage, but it does not solve his physical poke or mobility.
Later Ezreal is the better side-lane kiter and poke duelist, while Morgana gives stronger hard engage denial in grouped fights. Force him into objective zones where Arcane Shift paths are limited, then bind after he blinks or shield allies through his poke setup.
- A Binding into available Arcane Shift usually accomplishes nothing.
- Minions are your best defense against Mystic Shot cooldown cycling.
- Soul Shackles should follow Arcane Shift, not start before it.
- Mixed damage makes single-resist itemization less reliable than health plus spell shield.

FiddlesticksEven
Black Shield can deny Terrify and Morgana can interrupt Drain with Binding, but Fiddlesticks wins if he channels Crowstorm from fog onto an unshielded target.
Watch for Crowstorm from fog puts Fiddlesticks on top of Morgana and forces her to survive heavy area damage while feared or silenced.
How to beat
Keep vision on flank bushes and save Black Shield for Terrify or Dark Wind silence when Fiddlesticks is in range. If he starts Drain, break it with Dark Binding immediately and move out of tether range before trading further. When Crowstorm appears, shield yourself, walk away from the center, then turn with Soul Shackles only if he cannot fear you.
Later Fiddlesticks has the more dangerous surprise teamfight engage, while Morgana has the better answer if she sees it coming. Ward channel spots, shield the first fear target, and root him after Crowstorm lands so your team can leave the damage zone.
- Binding cancels Drain if it lands, which flips many close duels.
- Black Shielding before Terrify is much stronger than cleansing afterward.
- Do not stand near minions when Dark Wind can bounce silence repeatedly.
- Banshee's is valuable because it can block the first fear or silence from a flank.

GangplankUnfavoured
Gangplank can cleanse Binding or Soul Shackles stun with Remove Scurvy and wins long trades through Parrrley, autos, and Cannon Barrage slow zones.
Watch for Remove Scurvy clears Dark Binding or Soul Shackles stun and denies Morgana's only reliable kill window.
How to beat
Do not commit your full combo into Gangplank while Remove Scurvy is ready unless you are only forcing the cooldown. Poke with Tormented Soil when he farms, shield Cannon Barrage slows if you must cross it, and look for Binding only after he uses W for health or another crowd control. If he cleanses Binding, back away until your cooldowns return instead of continuing an auto-trade.
Later Gangplank is stronger in side lanes because he can cleanse your pick and pressure with sustained physical damage, while Morgana is more useful in grouped fights at denying his team follow-up. Use Black Shield to move carries through Cannon Barrage and hold Binding until Remove Scurvy is unavailable or he is forced to cleanse another effect.
- Remove Scurvy can erase the root that your whole duel depends on.
- Black Shield blocks Cannon Barrage slows while it holds, but the random damage can break it.
- Do not trade autos into Parrrley; your advantage is spell range and control.
- Zhonya's can buy time through his physical follow-up after he cleanses your control.

GarenFavoured
Morgana wins by keeping Garen out of melee and denying his only real engage with Dark Binding while Black Shield blocks Demacian Justice's magic execute pressure.
Watch for Decisive Strike lets Garen cleanse Soul Shackles' slow and force the silence window that stops your Q or E.
How to beat
Hold just outside Decisive Strike range and tag him with Tormented Soil often enough to keep Perseverance down. Do not spend Dark Binding while he is already moving away; save it for his Q run-in, then drop Soil under the root and walk back. If he reaches you, Black Shield before the silence or before the execute, then re-space.
Later Garen can side-lane longer because Morgana does not kill tank items quickly, but he still struggles to ever start the fight alone. In teamfights Morgana is much more valuable: shield the carry he tries to silence and use Soul Shackles to punish him for walking through the frontline.
- A single Tormented Soil tick turns off Perseverance, so refresh it before he gets free regen.
- Dark Binding after Decisive Strike's speed burst is safer than fishing at max range.
- Black Shield does not stop Judgment's physical damage, but it can block the silence and Demacian Justice.
- Do not chase him after Q breaks your ultimate slow; take the disengage and reset.

GragasEven
The duel is skill-heavy because Morgana can block Body Slam's crowd control and punish Gragas after missed barrels, but Explosive Cask can break her ultimate setup or knock her into a losing trade.
Watch for Explosive Cask interrupts your Soul Shackles positioning and can knock you out before the second hit stuns.
How to beat
Play at a diagonal from minions so Barrel Roll and Body Slam cannot both cover the same dodge path. Black Shield the Body Slam or the Cask displacement, then commit with Dark Binding while his dash is down. If he holds ultimate, use Soul Shackles only when he has already spent Cask or when you can force him to throw it defensively.
Later Gragas has better pick and displacement, while Morgana has better anti-engage and zone control. In side lane he can clear and escape, so Morgana should avoid long chases and instead group where Black Shield can deny his cask setup on a priority ally.
- Do not stand in your minion wave; Barrel Roll poke and Body Slam threat line up too easily.
- Black Shield before Body Slam connects, not after the collision animation has started.
- If Gragas ults you away during Soul Shackles, the second hit usually fails; bait Cask first.
- Dark Binding is easiest when he finishes Body Slam or channels Drunken Rage.

HeimerdingerEven
Morgana can sustain and clear turrets with Tormented Soil, but Heimerdinger controls the ground and wins if Morgana walks through turret fire to force a bind.
Watch for H-28G Evolution Turret creates a protected zone that punishes Morgana for standing still to land Dark Binding.
How to beat
Clear from outside the turret nest with Tormented Soil and make him choose between defending turrets and dodging Q. Do not chase through two active turrets unless Concussion Grenade is down or Black Shield is ready for the stun. Commit after a grenade miss, because he has no mobility and a root into Soil forces him out of his setup.
Later Heimerdinger is annoying in side lanes around turrets, but Morgana brings more reliable teamfight engage and protection. Group before he sets up, shield the ally who must walk into grenade range, and use Soil to break siege positions rather than dueling inside his nest.
- Tormented Soil can kill turrets without you entering their full threat zone.
- Black Shield blocks the grenade stun, but not the turret damage after the shield is broken.
- Dark Binding through his turrets is blocked, so angle from the side before committing.
- If he has already placed multiple turrets, winning the space matters more than hitting Heimer himself.

JannaFavoured
Janna lacks the damage to threaten Morgana alone, while Black Shield removes the knockup and slow that normally let her disengage.
Watch for Monsoon resets your Soul Shackles engage by knocking you away and healing through the follow-up.
How to beat
Walk her down patiently rather than throwing Dark Binding into her high movement speed. Black Shield before Howling Gale or Zephyr if you need to keep closing, then bind after she commits a tornado or shield. Save Soul Shackles until Monsoon is down or until you can stay in range after the knockback.
Later Janna should almost never take the duel; she is picked for teamfight peel. Morgana's job is to Black Shield the carry through her tornado or slow, then force Janna to spend Monsoon defensively before the main engage lands.
- Do not ult first if Monsoon is available and she has room to push you away.
- Black Shield denies Howling Gale's knockup, making her much easier to pin.
- Her Eye Of The Storm can absorb your poke, so pressure after it is used on a turret or ally.
- Dark Binding is more reliable after Zephyr is spent and her passive movement drops.

Jarvan IVEven
Morgana can stop Jarvan's crowd control and punish his all-in, but Cataclysm traps her long enough for his physical damage to matter if Black Shield is mistimed.
Watch for Cataclysm locks you in place and forces a close-range fight where Jarvan's autos and Dragon Strike can finish you.
How to beat
Keep minions between you and his walk-up, but respect the Demacian Standard plus Dragon Strike line. Black Shield before the knockup combo or Cataclysm impact, then root him inside or just after his arena and drop Soil under him. Commit when his flag combo is down; without it he cannot easily leave Soul Shackles.
Later Jarvan side-lanes and catches better than Morgana, but Morgana is stronger when teams are grouped and his engage is predictable. Shield his target as he flags in, then use Soul Shackles inside Cataclysm to turn his own arena against him.
- Black Shield blocks the knockup from Demacian Standard plus Dragon Strike if it is active before contact.
- Cataclysm's terrain still traps you even when the magic damage or disable is blocked.
- Rooting Jarvan after his flag combo leaves him stuck in Tormented Soil.
- Zhonya's can buy time inside Cataclysm while Soul Shackles continues threatening the second hit.

JaxUnfavoured
Jax outscales and outduels Morgana because Leap Strike forces contact and Counter Strike reduces her area damage while his sustained attacks keep going after her cooldowns.
Watch for Leap Strike closes through your spacing and lets Jax start the fight before Dark Binding is guaranteed.
How to beat
Stand behind minions so Dark Binding is not your only answer to Leap Strike, and never let him start with a free empowered jump. Black Shield the Counter Strike stun, root him as he lands or as Counter Strike ends, then disengage rather than trading autos. You win short punish windows, not extended fights.
Later Jax wins the side lane decisively once finished and will force Morgana away from towers if she is alone. In teamfights, stop trying to duel him; Black Shield the target he jumps on and use Binding or Soul Shackles to peel after Counter Strike is committed.
- Counter Strike reduces Tormented Soil and Soul Shackles damage because they are area effects.
- Black Shield blocks the Counter Strike stun but not Jax's physical follow-up.
- Do not ult while he still has Leap Strike ready unless you can root him during the tether.
- A missed Dark Binding usually means you must give ground immediately.

KarthusEven
Morgana has stronger pick and protection, but Karthus wins drawn-out close fights with Defile and still deals damage after dying.
Watch for Death Defied denies a clean finish because Karthus keeps casting after you kill him.
How to beat
Fight at Q range and keep moving between Lay Waste casts; do not stand in Defile just to maintain Soul Shackles. Black Shield can absorb Wall of Pain's slow and reduce the burst of Requiem if timed before the channel finishes. Commit after he misses Wall or several Lay Wastes, but leave space to walk out when his passive begins.
Later Karthus contributes more unavoidable damage to teamfights, while Morgana contributes pick, shield, and zone control. In side lane Morgana can clear safely, but should not chase him deep because even winning the duel can cost too much health into Requiem or Death Defied.
- Black Shield before Requiem completes can absorb its magic damage if the shield holds.
- Do not stand still on isolated Lay Waste; it hits much harder when you are alone in the blast.
- Killing Karthus inside your team is not the end of the fight because Death Defied continues casting.
- Wall of Pain is the clean Black Shield timing when you need to disengage.

KassadinUnfavoured
Kassadin is built to beat magic damage duels, using Void Stone, Null Sphere silence, and Riftwalk mobility to dodge Morgana's binding windows.
Watch for Null Sphere silences you before you can cast Black Shield, Dark Binding, or Soul Shackles on your own timing.
How to beat
Do not let him start with free Null Sphere; hold max Q range and force him to Riftwalk first. Pre-cast Black Shield when he is about to jump in, then aim Dark Binding at his landing point and disengage if it misses. Your best kill chance is before Riftwalk stacks or after he spends it aggressively into a binding angle.
Later Kassadin wins side lane and pick pressure against Morgana once he has levels and mana. In teamfights Morgana should stop matching him alone, shield the ally he is diving, and root the space he must Riftwalk into rather than chasing him after the blink.
- Kassadin's passive cuts your magic damage, so equal-item burst math is worse than it looks.
- Black Shield must be up before Null Sphere lands if you need to cast through the silence.
- Aim Dark Binding where Riftwalk ends, not where Kassadin starts.
- Soul Shackles rarely stuns him unless Riftwalk is down or he already used it forward.

KatarinaFavoured
Morgana's Black Shield and instant crowd control threat deny Katarina's reset pattern, and Dark Binding punishes Shunpo when Katarina has no minion or ally escape.
Watch for Death Lotus forces immediate interruption or disengage, otherwise it wins the damage race.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Shunpo is her engage rather than her escape, then root her landing spot. Save Black Shield for the slow-free commit or to prevent incidental control from setting up her ultimate, but save Dark Binding or Soul Shackles specifically to stop Death Lotus. Once Shunpo is down, Soil under the root and walk out of her dagger range.
Later Katarina is more dangerous in chaotic teamfights because resets can snowball instantly, but Morgana has the tools to deny her first kill. Hold Black Shield and Binding for the carry she jumps on, and do not waste both on poke before Death Lotus appears.
- Dark Binding cancels Death Lotus, so do not throw it casually right before she can all-in.
- Shunpo places her predictably at the target, making point-blank Binding reliable.
- Black Shield does not stop Death Lotus damage for long if it breaks, so interrupt matters more than absorbing.
- If she Shunpos to a minion to dodge Q, she cannot immediately use it to leave.

KayleUnfavoured
Kayle wins extended duels with Righteous Fury range and Intervention denying Morgana's burst or Soul Shackles payoff.
Watch for Intervention makes Kayle immune during your binding or ultimate damage window and lets her keep attacking while you wait.
How to beat
Do not trade while Righteous Fury is active unless she is rooted and you can walk away after Soil. Bait Intervention with Soul Shackles or a binding combo, then disengage and re-engage after it ends rather than dumping every spell into immunity. Black Shield Reckoning's slow when you need to preserve distance.
Later Kayle is the stronger side-lane duelist and will eventually force Morgana off alone. Morgana's teamfight job is still valuable: shield the target Kayle or her team is trying to lock down, and time Binding after Intervention rather than into it.
- Black Shield can block Reckoning's slow, which is often what lets Kayle keep attacking.
- Righteous Fury gives Kayle enough range to punish Morgana between cooldowns.
- Do not cast the second half of your plan into Intervention; wait it out if possible.
- Soul Shackles can force Kayle ult, but you need distance afterward or she wins the follow-up.

KennenEven
Morgana can block Kennen's stun chain and punish his low range commit, but Slicing Maelstrom wins if Black Shield is down or broken early.
Watch for Slicing Maelstrom stacks Mark of the Storm quickly and turns a close-range Morgana ultimate into Kennen's stun window.
How to beat
Play outside his auto-enhanced Electrical Surge range and make him use Lightning Rush to enter, not to escape. Black Shield before the second or third mark would stun you, then bind him after Lightning Rush ends. Commit with Soul Shackles only when you can keep shield intact or when his ultimate is already spent.
Later Kennen has the stronger flash-style teamfight engage, while Morgana is better at preventing his first stun from deciding the fight. In side lane, neither wants to overcommit without cooldowns, but grouped fights favor whichever champion times shield or Maelstrom better.
- Black Shield blocks the Mark stun if it is active when the third mark would trigger.
- Lightning Rush makes his path predictable but also helps him dodge a rushed Binding.
- Do not stand in Slicing Maelstrom just to finish your own ultimate tether.
- Binding after he exits Lightning Rush is much easier than binding during it.

Kog'MawUnfavoured
Kog'Maw outranges and outscales Morgana in a straight duel, and Bio-Arcane Barrage lets him kill through health before she can reliably land a binding.
Watch for Bio-Arcane Barrage gives Kog'Maw the range and percent-health magic damage to shred you while staying outside Soul Shackles comfort range.
How to beat
Do not walk at him while Bio-Arcane Barrage is active; use terrain or fog to force a shorter-range binding angle. Black Shield Void Ooze's slow if it is the difference between reaching him and being kited, then commit only when W is down or he has no room to retreat. If Binding misses, disengage immediately because his autos win the rest of the exchange.
Later Kog'Maw wins open side-lane duels and front-to-back damage if left alone. Morgana must play for picks and protection: shield the diver or carry who can reach him, and use Binding from fog rather than trying to duel through Barrage range.
- Bio-Arcane Barrage outranges your normal spell pattern, so wait it out when possible.
- Black Shield can absorb Void Ooze's magic damage and prevent the slow from ending your chase.
- Do not stand near his corpse after killing him; Icathian Surprise can trade the duel back.
- A fog-of-war Binding is your best answer because walking straight in gives him too many autos.

Lee SinEven
Lee Sin can burst and reposition Morgana if Sonic Wave lands, but Black Shield and Dark Binding punish his predictable Resonating Strike follow-up.
Watch for Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike marks you and gives Lee Sin a guaranteed-looking gap close unless you shield and punish the second cast.
How to beat
Stand behind minions to deny Sonic Wave and keep Dark Binding ready when he has Q mark pressure. If Q hits, Black Shield before Resonating Strike or Dragon's Rage, then root his arrival and kite through Tormented Soil. Commit after he spends Safeguard or Q, because without a second dash he cannot easily escape Soul Shackles.
Later Lee Sin has stronger pick and kick angles, but he falls off as a pure duelist compared to how much Morgana can deny one target in a teamfight. Shield the ally he is trying to kick or slow, then bind him after he commits into the backline.
- If Sonic Wave misses, Lee Sin's threat drops sharply for the next trade.
- Black Shield can block Dragon's Rage displacement if active before the kick lands.
- Resonating Strike brings him to a predictable spot for point-blank Binding.
- Do not ult while he still has Safeguard targets behind him unless Binding is already landed.

LeonaFavoured
Leona lacks solo damage and Morgana's Black Shield directly counters the crowd control chain that makes Leona dangerous.
Watch for Zenith Blade starts Leona's full lockdown chain and brings her into range for Shield of Daybreak and Solar Flare.
How to beat
Hold Black Shield until Zenith Blade or Solar Flare, not for small poke. Once her engage is blocked, root her during the recovery and leave Tormented Soil under her while she walks out with no mobility. Do not stand in melee trading autos during Eclipse; punish the cooldown, not the tank stats.
Later Leona is still threatening as a teamfight initiator, but Morgana is one of the best answers to her. Shield the target marked by Zenith Blade, then counter-engage with Soul Shackles while Leona is stuck in your team.
- Black Shield blocks Zenith Blade's root and the follow-up Shield of Daybreak stun if it survives.
- Leona cannot proc Sunlight by herself, so her solo damage is much lower than her lane threat suggests.
- Wait out Eclipse's defensive window before expecting meaningful Soil damage.
- If she misses Zenith Blade, she has no clean way to leave Soul Shackles range.

LuluEven
Lulu can kite and deny Morgana's all-in with Whimsy and Wild Growth, but Morgana wins if Black Shield protects the engage and Binding lands after Lulu spends polymorph.
Watch for Whimsy prevents your cast sequence or speeds Lulu out of Soul Shackles range.
How to beat
Stay outside Glitterlance poke angles and do not force unless you know where Pix is, because the second bolt changes the line. Black Shield before Whimsy if you are committing, then bind after she uses Help, Pix! or Wild Growth defensively. If Wild Growth is available, expect your first engage to draw it and be ready to reset rather than overchase.
Later Lulu is better at enabling a carry, while Morgana is better at denying a single engage or setting a pick. In side lane the duel is mostly a kite-and-shield stalemate; in teamfights, Black Shield the ally Lulu wants to polymorph or slow and save Binding for after Wild Growth's knockup.
- Track Pix before dodging Glitterlance; the bolt may come from the shield target, not Lulu.
- Black Shield must be pre-cast to ignore Whimsy during an engage.
- Wild Growth can knock you up during Soul Shackles if you are standing too close.
- Her shield can absorb poke, so all-in after Help, Pix! is used away from herself.

LuxEven
Lux outranges Morgana and can poke safely, but Black Shield can negate Light Binding and turn a missed Lux Q into a lethal Morgana catch.
Watch for Light Binding roots you long enough for Lucent Singularity and Finales Funkeln to land together.
How to beat
Do not stand behind a single minion and assume you are safe, because Light Binding can hit two targets. Black Shield the Q when you are forced to cross open space, then answer immediately with Dark Binding while Lux has no root. Commit after she uses Prismatic Barrier or misses Q; before that, respect her range advantage.
Later Lux has better long-range siege and pick, while Morgana has stronger anti-pick and close-range teamfight control. In side lane both clear safely, but in grouped fights Morgana should shield the Light Binding target and use fog angles to threaten Lux after her cooldowns.
- Light Binding can pass through one minion, so hide behind two bodies or dodge sideways.
- Black Shield denies the root and can absorb enough magic damage to ruin her full combo.
- Lux's Finales Funkeln is easiest to avoid if you are not already slowed by Lucent Singularity.
- A missed Lux Q is the cleanest window to walk forward for Soul Shackles.

MalphiteEven
Morgana can deny Malphite's engage with Black Shield and kite him through Tormented Soil, but if Unstoppable Force catches her without shield he can force the whole fight on his terms.
Watch for Unstoppable Force: it bypasses spacing, knocks Morgana up, and starts Malphite's melee burst before she can bind.
How to beat
Hold outside Seismic Shard range when Black Shield is down, because the stolen movement speed is what lets him walk into ult range. Save Black Shield for Unstoppable Force or the follow-up slow, then root him as he lands and fight inside Tormented Soil while backing away from Ground Slam range.
Later Malphite is harder to kill in a side lane once tank items are finished, but Morgana is much more valuable in teamfights if Black Shield blocks his initiation. Stand far enough back that he must ult only you, then punish the spent engage with Soul Shackles or Dark Binding.
- Do not Black Shield the first Seismic Shard unless it would let him all-in.
- Dark Binding after Unstoppable Force lands is more reliable than trying to pre-fire it.
- Tormented Soil is good for removing Granite Shield before the real trade.

MalzaharEven
Both champions threaten long crowd control, but Morgana's Black Shield can blank Nether Grasp while Malzahar can break the shield first with repeated magic damage.
Watch for Nether Grasp: if Black Shield is down or broken, Morgana is suppressed inside Null Zone and loses the duel window.
How to beat
Keep the wave thin so Voidlings and Malefic Visions do not chip Black Shield before the ult exchange. Bait Call of the Void, shield before Nether Grasp range, then bind him during or after his channel and drop Tormented Soil under the rooted spot.
Later Malzahar's single-target pick remains dangerous, but Morgana is better at protecting carries if she saves Black Shield for the suppression. In side lane, neither should freely kill the other without a missed shield or missed binding.
- Black Shield must absorb both the suppression and enough damage not to break instantly.
- Kill or kite away from Voidlings before committing to Soul Shackles.
- A silence from Call of the Void before Black Shield is the cleanest way he wins.

Master YiUnfavoured
Morgana can punish Master Yi if Dark Binding lands after Alpha Strike, but Highlander ignores her slow and lets him run her down if she misses the root.
Watch for Alpha Strike: it dodges Dark Binding or Soul Shackles timing and places Yi in melee range afterward.
How to beat
Do not throw Dark Binding while Alpha Strike is available unless he is already forced into a narrow path. Let him Alpha Strike first, immediately bind the landing point, and use Soul Shackles for the stun rather than the slow because Highlander ignores slows.
Later Yi wins isolated side-lane duels once he has damage and sustain unless Morgana lands binding cleanly. In teamfights, Morgana's job is to Black Shield the target he dives and root him after Alpha Strike ends.
- Highlander ignores Soul Shackles' slow but not the second-hit stun.
- Tormented Soil does not stop Meditate unless you can layer binding or ult pressure.
- Stand away from minions so Alpha Strike has fewer bounce targets and less ambiguity.

Miss FortuneEven
Morgana wins if she interrupts or sidesteps Bullet Time and lands binding, while Miss Fortune wins extended ranged trades with stronger basic attacks and Double Up poke.
Watch for Bullet Time: it turns a rooted or slowed Morgana into a full-channel damage target if Dark Binding is unavailable.
How to beat
Stay offset from minions so Double Up cannot bounce into you for free damage. Save Dark Binding for Bullet Time or for the moment Make It Rain is down, then step into Soul Shackles only after she has lost Strut and cannot kite cleanly.
Later Miss Fortune is the stronger sustained damage champion, but Morgana can decide teamfights by Black Shielding an engage target and binding MF during Bullet Time. In side lane, Morgana should clear waves and avoid trading autos unless binding is already guaranteed.
- A single spell or auto removes Strut before you chase with Soul Shackles.
- Do not stand behind low-health minions into Double Up.
- Dark Binding cancels Bullet Time if it lands during the channel.

NasusEven
Morgana can kite and farm him early, but Nasus becomes difficult to duel if Wither forces her to stay inside Fury of the Sands.
Watch for Wither: it removes Morgana's ability to keep distance while Nasus walks through Tormented Soil and stacks Siphoning Strike damage.
How to beat
Black Shield the Wither when he starts walking at you, not when he is still farming. Keep him at binding range, punish last-hit attempts with Tormented Soil, and disengage when Fury of the Sands is active unless Dark Binding has already landed.
Later Nasus eventually wins most long side-lane duels if he has enough Siphoning Strike stacks. Morgana contributes more by clearing waves, shielding carries from Wither, and rooting Nasus before he reaches the back line.
- Black Shield blocks Wither entirely while it holds.
- Do not fight inside Fury of the Sands just because Soul Shackles is ticking.
- Tormented Soil can zone Q last-hits, but it also pushes the wave toward him.

NidaleeEven
Nidalee controls the fight with long-range spears and sustain, but Morgana wins any clean binding into Soil and Soul Shackles sequence.
Watch for Javelin Toss: from long range it chunks Morgana before she can start her own crowd-control chain.
How to beat
Stand behind minions and avoid brush angles so Javelin Toss cannot start the duel at half health. Use Black Shield if a spear or trap would set up the cougar all-in, then commit only after Nidalee has missed spear or used Pounce aggressively.
Later Nidalee is better at poking and escaping in side lanes, while Morgana is stronger in grouped fights where Black Shield and binding punish dives. Do not chase through brush unless you can track traps and cougar cooldowns.
- Bushwhack's resist shred makes the next spear or cougar combo much more dangerous.
- Dark Binding is easiest after Nidalee Pounces forward.
- Tormented Soil can reveal her intended heal-and-kite pattern by forcing movement.

Nunu & WillumpFavoured
Nunu has trouble killing Morgana through Black Shield, and Dark Binding cleanly interrupts or punishes Absolute Zero.
Watch for Absolute Zero: if Morgana stays nearby without binding or shield, the slow holds her for a heavy burst finish.
How to beat
Let him spend Ice Blast into Black Shield, then trade with binding and Soil while he has no meaningful follow-up. Keep enough distance that Absolute Zero starts outside the center of its radius, and cancel it with Dark Binding if he channels in range.
Later Nunu is more of a teamfight utility tank than a duel threat, so Morgana should not waste major cooldowns trying to kill him alone. In grouped fights, save Black Shield for Ice Blast peel or for walking a carry out of Absolute Zero.
- Dark Binding stops Absolute Zero's channel if it lands.
- Black Shield denies Ice Blast's slow, removing his chase pattern.
- Do not chase him around minions where Consume keeps him healthy.

OlafUnfavoured
Olaf's Ragnarok removes Morgana's binding and stun win condition, letting him run through her if he starts the fight in axe range.
Watch for Ragnarok: it makes Olaf immune to Dark Binding and Soul Shackles' stun during the decisive chase.
How to beat
Stay outside Undertow pickup lines and never fight him in a straight lane where repeated axes reset the chase. Bait Ragnarok with Soul Shackles or a threatened binding, retreat while it lasts, then bind only after the immunity ends.
Later Olaf is favored in side-lane duels because he can ignore Morgana's crowd control and force extended combat. In teamfights, Morgana should shield whoever Olaf targets and kite backward until Ragnarok expires rather than trying to lock him first.
- Black Shield does not stop Reckless Swing's true damage.
- A binding into active Ragnarok is wasted.
- If he misses Undertow and cannot pick up the axe, that is your best trade window.

PantheonUnfavoured
Pantheon's point-and-click stun and physical burst punish Morgana whenever Black Shield is late or broken before Aegis of Zeonia lands.
Watch for Aegis of Zeonia: it closes the gap, stuns Morgana, and guarantees Heartseeker Strike if Black Shield is unavailable.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Pantheon must walk through binding threat before he can jump. Black Shield the Aegis of Zeonia engage, then sidestep Heartseeker Strike and answer with Dark Binding while his gap closer is down.
Later Pantheon remains better at isolated pick fights, but his damage falls off against armor and stasis. Morgana should group, shield the target of his stun, and punish Grand Skyfall arrivals with binding and Soul Shackles.
- Aegis Protection does not block Dark Binding because it only stops an attack.
- Do not trade low health into Spear Shot poke; he executes short fights well.
- Grand Skyfall gives time to pre-position Black Shield before he lands.

RammusFavoured
Rammus struggles to kill Morgana alone because Black Shield blocks Powerball's crowd control and Puncturing Taunt while she damages him at range.
Watch for Puncturing Taunt: if Black Shield is down, it forces Morgana to attack Rammus and stay in Tremors range.
How to beat
Hold Dark Binding until after Powerball commits, because Rammus is easiest to hit while rolling straight at you. Black Shield the collision or taunt, then kite out of Tremors and keep Tormented Soil under him while Defensive Ball Curl is active.
Later Rammus is still hard to kill in side lane, but he rarely kills Morgana without help. In teamfights, Black Shield should deny his taunt on your carry, and binding his Powerball path can stop the engage entirely.
- Black Shield can block both Powerball's impact disable and Puncturing Taunt if it survives.
- Do not auto him during Defensive Ball Curl unless you must break a passive shield.
- Tremors matters most when he pins you near a wall or turret.

RyzeUnfavoured
Ryze's targeted Rune Prison and rapid spell rotation can burn through Black Shield and outdamage Morgana if he gets into 550 range.
Watch for Rune Prison: it roots Morgana in Ryze's full combo range and starts his cooldown chain.
How to beat
Play just outside Rune Prison range and force Ryze to walk into Dark Binding before he can target you. Black Shield the first Rune Prison attempt, then either disengage before Spell Flux lowers your magic resist or all-in immediately if binding lands.
Later Ryze scales into the stronger duelist and side-lane threat, especially with Desperate Power active. Morgana's late value is teamfight control: shield the target of Rune Prison and bind Ryze when he steps forward to machine-gun spells.
- Spell Flux reducing magic resist makes Black Shield break faster afterward.
- Desperate Power's move speed can close the small range gap quickly.
- Do not stand near minions when Spell Flux can bounce for extra damage.

ShacoEven
Shaco wins messy ambushes with Deceive and Jack In The Box, but Morgana wins prepared fights by shielding fear and rooting his exit path.
Watch for Deceive: it bypasses Morgana's front line of skillshots and lets Shaco start from behind for Backstab damage.
How to beat
Do not walk into fog or boxes without Black Shield ready. When he Deceives in, shield the fear or slow, drop Tormented Soil at your feet, and hold Dark Binding until he reveals or commits to the clone fight.
Later Shaco is more dangerous in side-lane ambushes than honest duels, while Morgana is far better in 5v5s. Group around wards, shield the first feared target, and avoid spending Soul Shackles on the Hallucinate clone unless the real Shaco is committed too.
- Black Shield prevents Jack In The Box fear while it holds.
- Tormented Soil at your feet punishes Deceive backstab attempts.
- Hallucinate can waste Dark Binding if you fire at the first Shaco you see.

ShenFavoured
Shen has low kill pressure through Black Shield, and Morgana can punish his predictable melee engages with binding and Soil.
Watch for Shadow Dash: it taunts Morgana into melee range and lets Shen trade while she cannot cast.
How to beat
Keep enough spacing that Shadow Dash must be used first, then Black Shield it and answer with Dark Binding after he passes through. If he saves dash defensively, push him with Tormented Soil and interrupt Stand United with binding if he channels nearby.
Later Shen becomes difficult to kill alone, but Morgana can clear waves and stop his teamfight taunt from deciding fights. In side lane, focus on wave control and be ready to cancel or punish Stand United rather than chasing him.
- Black Shield blocks Shadow Dash's taunt if it is active before contact.
- Dark Binding can stop Stand United during the channel.
- Do not waste full combo into Feint unless you are also denying his escape.

SingedEven
Morgana can root and kite Singed, but if Mega Adhesive or Fling gets her into Poison Trail she loses the long chase.
Watch for Fling: it throws Morgana behind Singed into Poison Trail and breaks her spacing for his extended trade.
How to beat
Never chase directly behind him; hold side angles where Poison Trail is not covering your path. Black Shield the Fling attempt, bind him as he turns to run through you, and commit Soul Shackles only when Insanity Potion is down or he has no room to kite out.
Later Singed is better at side-lane disruption and can ignore Morgana if he only wants to proxy or run away. Morgana should clear waves safely and use Black Shield in teamfights to stop Fling picks on carries.
- Black Shield blocks Fling's displacement while it survives.
- Mega Adhesive can force you into Poison Trail even without Fling.
- Soul Shackles is hard to finish if Insanity Potion and Ghost-style movement are available.

SionEven
Morgana wins if Black Shield denies Cryptic Gaze, but Sion's shield burst and lifesteal make direct melee trades dangerous.
Watch for Cryptic Gaze: it point-click stuns Morgana and gives Sion time to detonate Death's Caress or start Cannibalism attacks.
How to beat
Stay at binding range and make Sion use Cryptic Gaze into Black Shield before you stand near him. Break or wait out Death's Caress before committing, then root him outside melee range so Cannibalism cannot heal him through your damage.
Later AD Sion can become a stronger duelist if he reaches melee range, while AP-style shield burst remains a pick threat. Morgana's teamfight answer is simple: shield Cryptic Gaze targets and bind Sion before he walks into attack range.
- Black Shield denying Cryptic Gaze is the whole matchup.
- Do not stack close enough for Death's Caress detonation after he shields.
- Kite Cannibalism instead of trying to race its lifesteal.

SivirEven
Sivir can block Morgana's key spell with Spell Shield, but Morgana outranges her all-in control if she baits the shield first.
Watch for Spell Shield: it eats Dark Binding or Soul Shackles' first hit and removes Morgana's clean engage window.
How to beat
Use Tormented Soil or a non-lethal cast pattern to bait Spell Shield before throwing Dark Binding. Keep outside Boomerang Blade's return path, then commit when Spell Shield is down and Sivir has used On The Hunt for movement rather than damage uptime.
Later Sivir is stronger in sustained teamfight damage and rotations, but Morgana can still decide fights by forcing or baiting Spell Shield before landing binding. In side lane, Morgana should waveclear and avoid long auto trades because Sivir's Ricochet and ultimate favor extended fights.
- Tormented Soil can pop Spell Shield without risking Dark Binding.
- Wait for Boomerang Blade's return before stepping forward to ult.
- If Sivir Spell Shields Soul Shackles' first hit, she can deny the later stun setup.

SkarnerEven
Morgana can stop most of Skarner's approach with Dark Binding and Black Shield, but if he reaches Impale range after her shield is down she loses the trade hard.
Watch for Impale: suppresses Morgana through her attempt to kite if Black Shield is broken or unavailable.
How to beat
Hold outside his Crystalline Exoskeleton engage range and make him spend the shield speed before you throw Dark Binding. Black Shield yourself before Fracture or Impale, then root him during the failed run-in and place Tormented Soil under him while backing away. Commit only when his W is gone and he has no clean path to walk through minions.
Later Skarner is more reliable in side-lane picks because one Impale can drag Morgana into his team, but Morgana is stronger in grouped fights if she shields the real carry target. Stay near allies, save Black Shield for Impale, and use Soul Shackles only after Skarner has already committed.
- Do not waste Black Shield on Crystal Slash poke; save it for Fracture into Impale.
- Breaking Crystalline Exoskeleton removes both his speed and attack-speed window.
- Dark Binding is easiest after he starts running straight at you with W.
- If he has Flash, stand farther back than normal because Flash-Impale decides the fight.

SonaFavoured
Sona can poke from longer range, but she is fragile and Black Shield denies the Crescendo window Morgana needs to survive and land a binding.
Watch for Crescendo: catches Morgana before she can shield or ult if Sona holds it for the all-in.
How to beat
Respect Sona's 550 attack range early and answer her Q poke with Tormented Soil only when she steps forward. Keep Black Shield ready once Crescendo is available, then bind her after she uses Song of Celerity or walks up for Power Chord. If Dark Binding lands, she usually cannot survive the full Soil and Soul Shackles follow-up.
Later Sona's teamfight aura value is higher if Morgana never reaches a priority target, but Morgana's Black Shield can completely ruin Sona's initiation. In fights, shield the ally Sona wants to Crescendo and punish her short range with Binding when she moves in.
- Track Power Chord; the damage-reduction chord can make your all-in fail.
- Black Shield before Crescendo lands, not after the animation starts if you are in range.
- Sona has no dash, so a max-range Dark Binding forces Flash or death.
- Do not chase through Song of Celerity unless Binding is already available.

SorakaEven
Morgana has better kill pressure, but Soraka's silence, sustain, and magic-resist aura can stall the duel until Morgana wastes cooldowns.
Watch for Infuse: silences Morgana during the moment she needs to cast Black Shield, Dark Binding, or Soul Shackles.
How to beat
Do not start the fight by walking into Infuse range for free; poke with Tormented Soil and force Soraka to spend Wish or Astral Blessing defensively. Black Shield the silence if you are committing, then bind immediately because Soraka has no mobility once caught. Avoid long Starcall trades where her magic-resist reduction stacks and your shield gets chipped away.
Later Soraka is not a real side-lane duelist unless Morgana cannot finish through Wish, while Morgana offers stronger pick and counter-engage. In teamfights, pressure Soraka with bindings but do not tunnel into her if she is only baiting cooldowns for her carries.
- Infuse can stop Soul Shackles follow-up if you did not shield first.
- Her passive aura makes early magic burst worse than it looks on paper.
- Force Wish before using Ignite-style kill timing or your final damage may not stick.
- Standing in repeated Starcalls makes Black Shield much easier to break.

TaricFavoured
Taric is dangerous only if he gets into Dazzle range, and Morgana can Black Shield the stun and punish his slow melee approach.
Watch for Dazzle: starts Taric's only reliable all-in and lets him close for Shatter and Radiance.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Taric must walk at you openly before casting Dazzle. Black Shield the stun, root him as he continues forward, and drop Tormented Soil under him while you kite out of Radiance. You can commit after Dazzle is down because he has no gap closer and his healing alone will not beat your sustained magic damage.
Later Taric does not want the isolated duel unless Morgana's Black Shield is down, but he is useful in grouped armor-aura fights. Morgana should shield the Dazzle target and look past him for bindings on carries rather than spending everything into his defensive stats.
- If Black Shield blocks Dazzle, Taric usually has no way to force you to stay.
- Do not stand close enough for max-damage Dazzle into instant Radiance.
- His Shatter armor aura matters little against your magic damage.
- Binding him after he starts Dazzle's travel is often guaranteed if he keeps walking forward.

TeemoEven
Morgana wins when she lands Dark Binding, but Teemo's speed, poison, and mushroom zones make the fight annoying if she misses.
Watch for Noxious Trap: controls the ground Morgana needs for Soul Shackles and can break Black Shield before the real trade.
How to beat
Stay behind minions until you know where Teemo wants to kite, then use Tormented Soil to remove his Move Quick speed before throwing Dark Binding. Do not chase blindly through brush or narrow paths because mushrooms turn a winning all-in into a lost one. Commit when his Move Quick has been tagged off and he has no mushroom between you and the tether path.
Later Teemo can make side lanes painful with trap coverage, but he still dies if bound in open ground. In teamfights, Morgana contributes more reliable protection and engage, so sweep paths and force fights away from his prepared mushrooms.
- Tormented Soil damage disables Move Quick's passive speed after it connects.
- Black Shield blocks Blinding Dart's magic damage, but the blind itself is not the main issue for Morgana.
- A mushroom hit before Soul Shackles often breaks your chase angle.
- Do not fire Binding at his last visible spot if Camouflage was set up in brush; check with Soil first.

TristanaUnfavoured
Tristana outranges Morgana as levels rise and can use Rocket Jump and Buster Shot to deny Soul Shackles unless Morgana lands the first binding.
Watch for Buster Shot: knocks Morgana out of Soul Shackles range and resets the duel before the stun lands.
How to beat
Play just outside her auto range early and save Dark Binding for after Rocket Jump, not before, unless she is pinned by terrain. Black Shield can block Rocket Jump's slow and Buster Shot's magic damage, but it does not stop the displacement, so do not rely on it to keep Soul Shackles attached. Commit only from fog or after she has spent W aggressively.
Later Tristana becomes much harder in the side lane because her range and reset escape outscale Morgana's catch pattern. Morgana's job shifts to shielding the target Tristana wants to burst and rooting her when she jumps forward in teamfights.
- Buster Shot can break your ultimate tether even through Black Shield.
- If Rocket Jump is available, a max-range Binding is your only clean opener.
- Do not walk at her during Rapid Fire; make her move through Soil first.
- Her late-game range lets her hit you before you can threaten a normal bind.

TryndamereUnfavoured
Morgana can kite Tryndamere for a while, but Spinning Slash plus Undying Rage lets him survive her burst and finish her once cooldowns are gone.
Watch for Undying Rage: ignores Morgana's lethal burst and lets Tryndamere keep chasing through Soul Shackles timing.
How to beat
Hold maximum distance and use Dark Binding only after Spinning Slash starts or after he commits past the minion wave. Tormented Soil is for wearing him down before the all-in, not for standing still and trading. When Undying Rage is active, kite and delay with Soul Shackles slow rather than spending your last damage into immunity.
Later Tryndamere dominates isolated side lanes once he has damage and cooldowns, while Morgana is much more valuable grouped. Do not answer his split push alone unless you have tower space and Zhonya's; force him to enter teamfights through binding angles and shield his slow off your carry.
- Binding before Spinning Slash gives him a clear dodge and engage window.
- Soul Shackles stun can land after Undying Rage ends if you start it late enough.
- Mocking Shout's slow matters more than its attack damage reduction against you.
- Use Zhonya's to waste the final seconds of Undying Rage, not at the start.

Twisted FateEven
Morgana can block Gold Card and punish Twisted Fate's immobility, but his range and instant card threat make missed bindings costly.
Watch for Pick A Card: Gold Card forces the stun window that lets Twisted Fate land Wild Cards or escape your ultimate.
How to beat
Watch the card cycle and Black Shield before Gold Card connects if you are in auto range. Stay slightly off the minion line so Wild Cards cannot poke you and clear the wave at the same time. Once he locks the wrong card or throws Gold Card into shield, bind him immediately and use Soul Shackles before Gate can reposition him out of the duel.
Later Twisted Fate has better map pressure with Gate and Destiny, but Morgana is stronger in a straight front-to-back fight. Match him by pushing waves safely, shielding Gold Card targets, and punishing any ultimate flank with Dark Binding on arrival.
- Black Shield turns Gold Card into only damage if the shield survives.
- Do not stand behind low-health minions where Red Card splash sets up Wild Cards.
- Destiny's reveal and slow can make escaping ganks harder even if TF is not dueling you.
- Binding his Gate arrival spot is often stronger than chasing after he lands.

TwitchUnfavoured
Twitch can open from invisibility with stacked poison and outrange Morgana's response during Spray and Pray unless she predicts the engage.
Watch for Ambush: lets Twitch choose the fight start and stack Deadly Venom before Morgana can aim Dark Binding.
How to beat
Do not walk alone into fog where Twitch can start inside auto range; use wards and Tormented Soil checks before entering narrow paths. If he appears, shield the Venom Cask slow or Expunge burst window and throw Binding along his retreat line, not directly at his first position. Commit only if Binding lands or Spray and Pray is down, because trading autos against his ultimate is losing.
Later Twitch is a stronger side-lane ambusher and late-game carry, but Morgana can decide teamfights by shielding his first target and rooting him when he reveals. Group tightly enough to protect carries, but not in a line that lets Spray and Pray pierce everyone.
- Twin Shadows is valuable because it can expose Ambush paths before he opens.
- Venom Cask slow makes Soul Shackles chase unreliable if Black Shield is already broken.
- Spray and Pray outranges your normal threat zone, so do not run straight at him.
- A bound Twitch usually dies; an unbound Twitch usually wins the damage race.

VayneUnfavoured
Vayne's Tumble and Final Hour invisibility make Dark Binding unreliable, and Condemn can break Morgana's ultimate tether or pin her for the kill.
Watch for Final Hour: gives Vayne invisible Tumbles that deny Morgana's skillshot timing and let her choose short trades.
How to beat
Keep the fight away from walls so Condemn cannot stun you, and avoid using Binding before Vayne has shown Tumble. If she ults, back up and use Tormented Soil to reveal her movement pressure rather than guessing wildly. Commit only when Condemn is down or Binding lands from fog, then stay close enough for Soul Shackles without giving her a wall angle.
Later Vayne becomes one of the hardest side-lane marksmen for Morgana because Silver Bolts and stealth outscale raw shielding. In teamfights, Morgana should Black Shield Condemn or peel control from Vayne's target and force Vayne to spend Tumble defensively before throwing Binding.
- Condemn can knock you out of Soul Shackles range even if Black Shield blocks other crowd control.
- Final Hour Tumble makes delayed Binding better than instant Binding.
- Never duel beside thick terrain unless you are baiting Condemn into Black Shield.
- Tormented Soil can pressure her last known stealth path, but it will not replace vision.

VeigarEven
Morgana can Black Shield Event Horizon and punish Veigar's immobility, but Primordial Burst scales brutally against her AP if the shield is down.
Watch for Primordial Burst: converts Morgana's own Ability Power into lethal burst if Veigar gets a stun or shield break first.
How to beat
Hold Black Shield for Event Horizon rather than using it on Baleful Strike poke. Step through the cage only while shielded, then bind Veigar before Dark Matter lands or before he can retreat outside Soul Shackles range. If Black Shield is down, play outside cage range and farm with Soil until it returns.
Later Veigar's finished burst can delete Morgana or her carry, but Morgana still has the cleaner answer to his setup if Black Shield is available. In teamfights, shield the likely Event Horizon victim and threaten Veigar with Binding whenever he walks forward to cast R.
- Do not build the duel around raw AP trading; his ultimate rewards that.
- Black Shield must survive Event Horizon plus follow-up damage to keep you moving.
- Dark Matter is easiest to dodge if you do not panic inside the cage.
- Abyssal-style MR is valuable, but positioning against Event Horizon matters more.

WarwickEven
Morgana can deny Warwick's suppression with Black Shield, but Warwick's sustain and point-and-click engage punish her if she mistimes it.
Watch for Infinite Duress: suppresses Morgana long enough for Warwick to drain and hold her in melee if Black Shield is unavailable.
How to beat
Keep Warwick at binding range and make him walk through Tormented Soil before he can ult. Black Shield just before Infinite Duress when he enters lunge range, then root him during the failed engage and kite until Hungering Strike is not enough to recover. Do not take extended melee trades where Eternal Thirst and Q erase your poke.
Later Warwick is better at isolated picks on low-health targets, while Morgana is stronger grouped because she can shield Infinite Duress off the priority ally. In side lane, respect his sustain and avoid staying low where Blood Scent lets him force the fight.
- Black Shield blocks the suppression only if it is active before Infinite Duress lands.
- Blood Scent means recalling late at low health is dangerous even after you disengage.
- His Hungering Strike can keep him alive through Soil poke, so look for binding burst windows.
- If he ults another target, Morgana's shield timing is the fight's biggest swing.

WukongUnfavoured
Wukong's dash, Decoy mind game, and Cyclone knockup let him reach Morgana and disrupt her ultimate unless she reads the engage perfectly.
Watch for Cyclone: knocks Morgana up during Soul Shackles and keeps Wukong close long enough to finish the trade.
How to beat
Stand far enough back that Nimbus Strike cannot start for free from a nearby minion. Hold Dark Binding until after Decoy or until Wukong is locked into Cyclone's path, because binding the clone loses the duel. Black Shield the knockup window if you must fight, then kite sideways out of his spin rather than backward in a straight line.
Later Wukong is a stronger flank and side-lane fighter, but Morgana can blunt his teamfight engage by shielding the first Cyclone target. Group with vision on flanks and use Binding after he exits Decoy, not on the first model you see.
- If he stops moving briefly after engaging, assume Decoy and delay Binding.
- Black Shield can block Cyclone's knockup while it lasts, but his physical damage still burns you down.
- Do not stand near your own minions when Nimbus Strike is available.
- Soul Shackles is better after Cyclone starts than before he can Decoy away.

ZileanEven
Zilean outranges and kites Morgana with bombs and Time Warp, but he cannot easily kill her if Black Shield blocks the slow and she waits out Chronoshift.
Watch for Time Warp: either slows Morgana out of Soul Shackles range or speeds Zilean away after he places bombs.
How to beat
Avoid eating free Time Bombs at 600 range; use minion spacing and Tormented Soil rather than chasing directly. Black Shield the Time Warp slow when you commit, then bind him after he uses speed on himself or Rewind forces him into a predictable second cast. If Chronoshift is active, stop spending burst and hold position to bind him as he revives.
Later Zilean is more valuable when grouped because Chronoshift can undo a pick, while Morgana offers stronger protection against engage. In side lane the duel is slow and often resets; in teamfights, force his ultimate early and switch targets until it expires.
- Do not finish a full combo into active Chronoshift unless your team can camp the revive.
- Black Shield blocks Time Warp's slow, which is what lets your ultimate tether stay connected.
- A double-bomb pattern is predictable after Rewind; move before the second cast lands.
- Binding after he speeds himself is better than trying to outrun him first.
