Gragas
The Rabble Rouser
How this differs from the live game
- Barrel Roll (Q) does full damage no matter time it is on the ground
- Drunken Rage (W) last for a long time

- Magic Resist +12.60
Magic penetration marks keep Q Barrel Roll, E Body Slam's magic damage portion, and R Explosive Cask relevant without buying AP. The cost versus ordinary AP Gragas is much lower burst and wave-clear scaling: seals, glyphs, and quints are spent on armor, MR, and health instead of AP or scaling AP.
This is a 0/21/9 tank page: defense reaches Honor Guard, while utility gives Flash/Teleport cooldown, mana regen, and extra mana. Compared to ordinary AP Gragas masteries, it gives up offense tree damage, magic penetration, and AP scaling to make the health, armor, and MR item plan stronger.
Skill order
ultimate at 6, 11 and 16Happy Hour
- Barrel Roll (Q) takes points at levels 1, 4, 5, 7, 9.
- Drunken Rage (W) takes points at levels 3, 8, 10, 12, 13.
- Body Slam (E) takes points at levels 2, 14, 15, 17, 18.
- Explosive Cask (R) takes points at levels 6, 11, 16.
Max Q first because Season 3 Barrel Roll does full damage on early detonation and is still the lane wave-control tool even on tank Gragas. W is maxed second for the long defensive buff and mana sustain, with E taken early for escape, trading, and engage.
Alternative — E max before W was genuinely playable into melee lanes where repeated Body Slam trades and shorter skirmishes mattered more than the defensive uptime from Drunken Rage.
Why these items
Openingsall within the 475 starting gold
Doran's Shield start — Default into physical top laners and auto-attack harass; it gives the most stable health and regen for surviving lane.
Flask sustain start — Use into poke or lanes where you expect repeated short trades and need both health and mana before first recall.
Cloth armor start — Use into heavy AD lanes where early armor and maximum potion count matter more than Doran's Shield's block passive.
Corein buy order
1Sunfire Cape2,650gSunfire Cape gives health, armor, and constant melee-range damage for a tank who wants to stand in the fight.
2Spirit Visage2,750gSpirit Visage supplies health, MR, CDR, and stronger Happy Hour healing, making it the key anti-magic tank item.
3Randuin's Omen3,125gRanduin's Omen adds a second large armor-and-health spike plus an active slow for sticking after Body Slam or Explosive Cask.

Force of Nature2,610gBuy Force of Nature against very heavy AP poke or sustained magic damage when movement speed and regeneration beat the spell shield from Banshee's.

Thornmail2,200gBuy Thornmail when a fed basic-attacking marksman or lifesteal bruiser is the only damage source you must answer.

Guardian Angel2,750gBuy Guardian Angel when you are the primary engager and fights are decided by whether you survive the first collapse.

Magic penetration marks directly improve Q and R, the main magic-damage spells that define AP Gragas trades and all-ins. Armor seals cover auto attacks and minion damage in lane; swap glyphs to scaling AP only against very low magic-threat lanes.
This is the standard 21/0/9 AP mid page: offense supplies AP, CDR, magic penetration, and execute damage. Utility reaches Runic Affinity because Season 3 mid Gragas expects blue buff and gets major value from extending it.

- Body Slam (E) takes points at levels 2, 8, 10, 12, 13.
- Explosive Cask (R) takes points at levels 6, 11, 16.
Max Q first for waveclear, poke, and the highest AP-ratio lane damage, then E for lower-cooldown burst and mobility damage. Take E at level 2 for escape and trading, then W at level 4 for mana sustain and damage reduction.
Why these items
Openingsall within the 475 starting gold
Doran's Ring start — Default mid start when you can lane normally; it gives AP, health, mana on last hits, and enough sustain with two potions.
Flask sustain start — Use into heavy poke or lanes where you expect repeated recalls and mana trading before Catalyst or Chalice components.

Matchup against
62 champions, one-on-one
AhriEven
Gragas can out-trade Ahri when Body Slam reaches her, but Spirit Rush and Charm make clean all-ins hard to force.
Watch for Charm: stops Body Slam follow-up and turns your engage into her full combo.
How to beat
Hold just outside Charm range and use Barrel Roll to make her choose between last-hitting and keeping Essence Theft charges. Bait Charm before committing; once it misses, Body Slam into Q and save Explosive Cask either to interrupt her escape angle or knock her back after Spirit Rush ends.
Later Ahri is harder to pin in a side lane, but Gragas brings more reliable displacement in grouped fights. Do not chase three Spirit Rush casts through fog; clear waves, hold Cask for her dive, and punish her when she spends mobility on your carries.
- Body Slam straight at Ahri only after Charm is down.
- Explosive Cask can knock her out of Spirit Rush follow-up range.
- If she uses Orb of Deception on the wave, step forward before the return path zones you out.

AkaliEven
Gragas can burst Akali before she chains Shadow Dance, but Twilight Shroud and repeated gap-closes let her win if he wastes cooldowns.
Watch for Twilight Shroud: denies your target lock and lets Akali wait out Barrel Roll and Body Slam cooldowns.
How to beat
Keep the fight at Barrel Roll range until she spends Mark of the Assassin or a Shadow Dance charge. Do not dump your combo into Twilight Shroud; throw Q where she must exit, then Body Slam when she dashes in and Cask her out before the second mark proc.
Later Akali becomes more dangerous in side lanes because she can stick through your first disengage. In teamfights, Gragas is better if he saves Explosive Cask to peel her off a carry instead of starting fights blindly.
- Body Slam can meet Shadow Dance as she arrives if you hold it.
- Place Barrel Roll on the edge of Twilight Shroud, not the center.
- Knocking Akali out after she marks you denies the easy second hit timing.

AlistarFavoured
Alistar is hard to kill during Unbreakable Will, but he lacks sustained damage to beat Gragas in an even duel.
Watch for Unbreakable Will: removes your crowd control and makes your burst almost meaningless for its duration.
How to beat
Do not commit your full combo while his ultimate is active; poke, heal through Happy Hour, and kite his Trample damage. After Pulverize and Headbutt are down, Body Slam back in and use Explosive Cask to keep him from walking out or to interrupt a disengage path.
Later Alistar still does not win the side lane unless Gragas wastes time into his ultimate. In teamfights, ignore him when Unbreakable Will is running and use Cask past him onto the carries he is trying to protect.
- Explosive Cask loses value into an active Unbreakable Will if your goal is killing Alistar.
- Body Slam after Headbutt makes it harder for him to reset spacing.
- His heal extends the duel, so fight around cooldown windows rather than chip alone.

AmumuFavoured
Amumu has dangerous lockdown, but Gragas can kite him and burst harder unless he eats Bandage Toss into full Despair time.
Watch for Bandage Toss: gives Amumu the contact he needs to layer Curse of the Sad Mummy and Despair.
How to beat
Stand behind minions or at diagonal angles so Bandage Toss is difficult to land. If it misses, Body Slam forward for a short trade, drop Barrel Roll under his retreat, then Cask him away before Despair turns the fight into a long drain.
Later Amumu is rarely a side-lane duelist, but his teamfight engage can decide the game. Gragas should stay spread from allies and use Explosive Cask to break his follow-up after Curse of the Sad Mummy or to split his backline before he engages.
- Do not Body Slam first if Bandage Toss is still lined up.
- Explosive Cask can deny Despair uptime by knocking him out after his engage.
- Short trades favor Gragas; standing in Despair does not.

AniviaUnfavoured
Anivia's range, wall, stun, and Rebirth make it hard for Gragas to finish a fair duel without being kited out.
Watch for Flash Frost: if it stuns you, Anivia gets Frostbite damage and enough time to wall your exit.
How to beat
Fight from the side of the wave so Flash Frost has to be aimed, not thrown through minions. Save Body Slam for after Flash Frost or Crystallize, and only all-in when Explosive Cask can knock her away from Glacial Storm or displace her egg into a killable spot.
Later Anivia controls side-lane terrain better and stalls Gragas indefinitely if she has space. In teamfights, Gragas should flank rather than front-to-back into Glacial Storm, using Cask to move Anivia or her frontline out of their formation.
- Do not Body Slam into a wall angle unless Flash Frost is down.
- Killing Anivia once is not enough; keep a spell ready for Rebirth.
- Explosive Cask can knock her out of her own Glacial Storm zone.

AnnieUnfavoured
Annie's point-and-click stun burst is faster than Gragas's engage if she holds Pyromania correctly.
Watch for Pyromania stun: lets Annie guarantee Tibbers and the rest of her burst before you can finish your combo.
How to beat
Track her stun stacks and back off when the next spell is empowered. Harass with Barrel Roll when she uses Disintegrate on minions, then commit only when stun is down or when Explosive Cask can start the fight from outside her cast range.
Later Annie remains more threatening in grouped fights because her flash-stun Tibbers can decide them instantly. Gragas should avoid stacking with allies, buy enough magic resistance to survive the first cast, and answer with Cask after she commits.
- Count Pyromania; the matchup changes completely at four stacks.
- Do not Body Slam into Annie while Tibbers stun is ready.
- Cask can start from outside her normal punish range if she walks up to threaten stun.

AsheFavoured
Ashe can kite with slows, but she is fragile and has no dash once Gragas reaches her.
Watch for Enchanted Crystal Arrow: stops your engage long enough for Ashe to open space and chain Frost Shot.
How to beat
Do not walk straight through Volley and Frost Shot; use fog or minions to shorten the distance. If Arrow is down or misses, Body Slam immediately, place Barrel Roll behind her retreat, and use Explosive Cask to knock her back toward you rather than away.
Later Ashe is better protected in teamfights than in a raw duel, so Gragas should not tunnel through her frontline. In side lanes he can threaten her hard, while grouped he looks for a flank Cask that separates Ashe from peel.
- Boots of Swiftness are valuable if Frost Shot is the only thing stopping your engage.
- Cask Ashe toward your side after Body Slam instead of using it as damage only.
- If she uses Arrow cross-map, you have a long window to force her.

BlitzcrankFavoured
Blitzcrank can punish one bad position, but in a straight duel Gragas has better damage, sustain, and disengage.
Watch for Rocket Grab: drags Gragas into Power Fist and Static Field before he can choose the trade.
How to beat
Stand behind minions and punish missed Rocket Grab with Body Slam and Barrel Roll. If he hooks you, do not panic-Cask instantly; wait for Power Fist or Static Field, then knock him away and re-engage once his burst window is gone.
Later Blitzcrank is not a side-lane threat unless he catches you near allies or a turret. In teamfights, Gragas should keep Cask ready to ruin the follow-up after a hook or to split Blitzcrank's carries when he oversteps.
- A missed Rocket Grab is your clearest engage timer.
- Explosive Cask can undo the position Blitzcrank creates with hook.
- Do not fight inside his turret line after being grabbed.

BrandUnfavoured
Brand outranges and out-damages Gragas if he lands his stun setup, but Gragas can win when he dodges Pillar of Flame and forces melee range.
Watch for Sear after Blaze: stuns you and guarantees Brand's full spell rotation.
How to beat
Keep moving laterally and do not let Conflagration mark you for a free Sear line. Once Sear misses, Body Slam in immediately, use Barrel Roll under his feet, and save Cask to interrupt his spacing before Pyroclasm can bounce through nearby targets.
Later Brand's grouped damage scales better when teams stand together, while Gragas has better pick and displacement. Avoid fighting him in minion waves or tight groups, and use Cask to isolate him before his ultimate bounces.
- Do not stand near your wave when Pyroclasm is available.
- If you are Ablaze, respect Sear even when Brand is backing up.
- Body Slam after Sear misses; before that, Barrel Roll poke is safer.

Cho'GathEven
Gragas can kite and burst Cho'Gath, but silence into Rupture and Feast gives Cho'Gath real kill pressure in extended fights.
Watch for Feral Scream: silences you long enough to stop Body Slam or Explosive Cask from saving you from Rupture and Feast.
How to beat
Trade at Barrel Roll range and avoid standing still after he starts walking forward for Feral Scream. If Rupture misses, Body Slam in for a short burst and leave before Feast range decides the last part of the duel.
Later Cho'Gath becomes harder to kill in side lanes as Feast stacks and tank items build up, but he is still vulnerable to displacement. In teamfights, Gragas should use Cask to move Cho away from carries or knock priority targets past him instead of wasting everything into his health bar.
- Do not hold Cask too long when you are near Feast execute range.
- Rupture is much easier for Cho'Gath to land after Feral Scream, so respect his walk-up.
- Barrel Roll poke matters more than all-inning through his full health pool.

CorkiEven
Corki can kite and shred with mixed damage, but Gragas wins if he catches Valkyrie on cooldown and bursts before sustained autos take over.
Watch for Valkyrie: denies Body Slam engage and leaves a damage trail that punishes chasing in a straight line.
How to beat
Hold Barrel Roll range and make Corki spend Valkyrie defensively before using Explosive Cask. Once Valkyrie is down, Body Slam from an angle, avoid standing in Gatling Gun, and Cask him back into Barrel Roll's zone.
Later Corki scales into a stronger protected damage dealer, while Gragas keeps better pick and disengage tools. In side lanes Gragas can threaten him only with fog or cooldown advantage; in teamfights, split Corki from peel rather than walking through missiles and Gatling Gun.
- Never chase directly through Valkyrie's fire trail.
- Corki without Valkyrie is vulnerable to Cask displacement.
- Move out of Gatling Gun's cone before extending the trade.

Dr. MundoUnfavoured
Dr. Mundo's regeneration and cleaver slows let him outlast Gragas unless Gragas can keep the fight short and deny Sadism value.
Watch for Sadism: turns a near kill into a long chase that Gragas usually loses without healing reduction.
How to beat
Harass with Barrel Roll and avoid taking repeated Infected Cleavers before the real fight starts. Save Explosive Cask to knock Mundo away during Sadism or force him back toward your team, and do not commit to an extended melee brawl while Burning Agony and Masochism are running.
Later Mundo generally wins the side lane once tanky and regenerated, especially if Gragas lacks Grievous Wounds support. In teamfights, Gragas should displace Mundo away from carries and spend burst on softer targets unless Mundo is already low and healing reduction is applied.
- A low-health Mundo is not actually low if Sadism is ready.
- Dodge cleavers first; Body Slam cannot fix a fight started at half health.
- Cask during Sadism buys more than using it before he ults.

EvelynnEven
Evelynn can appear on top of Gragas and burst first, but she is fragile if Gragas survives the opener and lands displacement.
Watch for Agony's Embrace: front-loads damage and slows you so Evelynn can stick with Hate Spike and Ravage.
How to beat
Keep wards or teammates controlling flank paths where the fight is likely to start, because the duel is hardest when Evelynn opens unseen. After she commits, Body Slam through her path rather than away from it, then Cask her out of melee range and punish while Dark Frenzy has not reset the chase.
Later Evelynn is more about picks than honest side-lane duels, and she can punish Gragas if he clears alone with no vision. In teamfights, hold Explosive Cask for her entry and peel her off carries; if she misses the first burst, she is much easier to kill than Gragas.
- Pink-style vision or Sightstone wards matter more here than raw combat stats.
- Do not spend Body Slam on the wave when Evelynn is missing.
- Cask after Agony's Embrace creates enough space to stop the Ravage follow-up.

EzrealEven
Ezreal is slippery and can poke forever, but Gragas can win if Arcane Shift is forced before the all-in.
Watch for Arcane Shift: breaks your Body Slam angle and resets Ezreal to Mystic Shot range.
How to beat
Use Barrel Roll to pressure his landing zones and make him Arcane Shift defensively. Once Shift is down, close immediately with Body Slam and use Explosive Cask to knock him back toward you or away from a wall he wants to kite around.
Later Ezreal remains hard to catch in side lanes but does not want to be displaced into Gragas's team. In grouped fights, Gragas should flank or counter-engage; front-chasing through Mystic Shot poke gives Ezreal too much time.
- Do not Cask before Arcane Shift unless it guarantees displacement.
- Stand off the minion line so Mystic Shot cannot poke and farm freely.
- If Ezreal uses Shift for damage, punish before Mystic Shot cooldowns buy it back.

FiddlesticksUnfavoured
Fiddlesticks can fear and Drain through Gragas's burst unless Gragas interrupts the channel and avoids Crowstorm setup.
Watch for Terrify: removes your ability to interrupt Drain or escape Crowstorm at the exact moment Fiddlesticks commits.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Fiddlesticks cannot start with Terrify for free, and save Body Slam or Explosive Cask specifically to break Drain or push him out of Crowstorm. If Terrify is down, Gragas can burst him quickly; if it is up, poke with Barrel Roll and refuse the close-range duel.
Later Fiddlesticks is a stronger fog-of-war teamfight threat than side-lane duelist. Gragas should ward flanks, avoid clumping, and keep Cask for Crowstorm interruption rather than spending it early for damage.
- Do not use both Body Slam and Cask before Drain starts.
- A hidden Crowstorm is the real losing case; fight with vision first.
- Mercury's Treads reduce the fear window enough to answer with displacement.

GangplankEven
Gangplank's Parrrley poke and Remove Scurvy make him hard to lock down, but Gragas has stronger burst and displacement when the cleanse is down.
Watch for Remove Scurvy: clears your slow and heals through the trade, denying the kill window after Body Slam or Cask.
How to beat
Trade with Barrel Roll until Gangplank uses Remove Scurvy for sustain, then look for Body Slam before it returns. Avoid long auto trades where Grog-Soaked Blade and Parrrley add up; commit with Cask only when you can force him away from his retreat or after his heal is spent.
Later Gangplank scales into strong side-lane trading and global teamfight influence, while Gragas has more direct engage control. In teamfights, track Cannon Barrage zones and use Cask to knock Gangplank or his carries out of the slow field.
- Do not rely on one slow sticking while Remove Scurvy is ready.
- Parrrley trades favor Gangplank if you never answer with Barrel Roll damage.
- Cask can displace him out of his own Cannon Barrage slow zone.

GarenEven
Gragas can kite and reset Garen with Barrel Roll and Body Slam, but if Garen closes through the slow and reaches execute range the duel flips quickly.
Watch for Decisive Strike breaks Barrel Roll's slow and lets Garen force the silence-speed window before Demacian Justice.
How to beat
Hold mid range and keep tagging him often enough that Perseverance does not restart. Do not Body Slam into him while Decisive Strike is available; bait the speed burst, then E away or through him and drop Barrel Roll where he has to keep chasing. Commit only when Demacian Justice cannot finish you through Happy Hour healing.
Later Garen is sturdier in the side lane if he can walk you down through repeated trades, but Gragas is far more useful in grouped fights with Explosive Cask displacement. Keep side waves short, deny his passive with poke, and look to split him from his team rather than matching long melee brawls.
- Barrel Roll poke matters most because it keeps Perseverance off.
- If Decisive Strike is down, Body Slam can force a clean short trade.
- Do not sit at low health baiting Happy Hour; Demacian Justice punishes that exact habit.
- Explosive Cask can deny his final Q-to-ultimate chase.

HeimerdingerUnfavoured
Heimerdinger controls the ground with turrets and grenade threat, making it difficult for Gragas to find a clean all-in without eating repeated return damage.
Watch for CH-1 Concussion Grenade stuns Gragas during Body Slam or blinds the follow-up zone, turning his engage into turret punishment.
How to beat
Stay outside turret nests and use Barrel Roll to clear or soften turrets before fighting Heimer himself. Bait the grenade with short forward movement, then Body Slam only after it misses or is used on the wave. Explosive Cask is best used to knock Heimer out of his turret setup, not to start inside it.
Later Heimer is still stronger around prepared objectives and sieges, while Gragas is better at breaking formation with a single cask. Do not side-lane into a fully set nest; clear waves from range and force him to move before contesting.
- Do not Body Slam through multiple H-28G Evolution Turrets unless grenade is down.
- Explosive Cask behind Heimer can remove him from his turret safety.
- Barrel Roll's attack-speed slow is less important than its ability to clear the setup.
- His rockets punish standing alone near low-health minions.

JannaFavoured
Janna can disengage Gragas once or twice, but she lacks the damage to win a fair isolated duel if Gragas keeps cooldowns for her peel.
Watch for Monsoon knocks Gragas away and resets the fight after he commits Body Slam and Explosive Cask.
How to beat
Walk her down patiently instead of spending everything into Eye Of The Storm. Hold Body Slam until Howling Gale is charging or missed, then use Explosive Cask after Monsoon or to push her away from escape space. The duel is mostly about not wasting burst into shield and knockback.
Later Janna is not a side-lane threat, but she is much more valuable in teamfights if she denies your engage. Flank rather than front-to-back into her, and force Monsoon before using the cask that decides the fight.
- Do not throw Explosive Cask first if Monsoon is still ready.
- Body Slam can interrupt her positioning while Howling Gale is charging.
- Eye Of The Storm can make your first Barrel Roll look worse than the trade really is.
- She wins by leaving, not by killing you.

Jarvan IVEven
Jarvan's armor shred and bursty engage threaten Gragas, but Body Slam and Explosive Cask give Gragas strong tools to interrupt or escape Jarvan's forced fights.
Watch for Cataclysm traps Gragas in melee range where Martial Cadence, Dragon Strike, and Golden Aegis can finish a committed trade.
How to beat
Play just outside Dragon Strike range and punish Jarvan after he spends the flag combo or Cataclysm. Save Body Slam to break his follow-up spacing or to leave the Cataclysm wall if possible, then turn with Barrel Roll once his shield is gone. Commit when Martial Cadence has already been consumed and his combo is down.
Later Jarvan remains a dangerous side-lane bruiser and a strong teamfight initiator, while Gragas offers better disengage and pick disruption. In groups, use Explosive Cask to separate Jarvan from his backline after he dives rather than trying to out-tank his engage.
- Do not stand in a line with Demacian Standard and Jarvan after he drops it.
- Body Slam saved for after Cataclysm is often worth more than Body Slam used for damage.
- Barrel Roll on his landing spot punishes predictable flag-combo paths.
- His first auto matters more than later autos because of Martial Cadence.

JaxUnfavoured
Jax scales into a stronger direct duelist, and Counter Strike reduces Gragas's area damage while Jax sticks through short trades with Leap Strike.
Watch for Counter Strike dodges basic attacks and reduces area damage, taking the bite out of Gragas's close-range trade window.
How to beat
Do not fight him during Counter Strike; kite backward, place Barrel Roll where he must land, and save Body Slam to disengage after Leap Strike. Trade in short bursts before his Grandmaster's Might attack speed ramps. Explosive Cask should break his chase or push him into a pre-set barrel, not start a brawl you cannot finish.
Later Jax wins the finished side lane if he can force repeated melee contact, while Gragas is better in grouped fights with displacement and poke. Clear waves, avoid long isolated duels, and use cask to peel him off carries or deny his reset target.
- Never Body Slam forward while Counter Strike is active unless it secures the kill.
- Barrel Roll under yourself punishes his Leap Strike landing.
- Explosive Cask can end the duel by breaking his chase path.
- If he gets several Grandmaster's Might stacks before you trade, back off.

KarthusFavoured
Gragas has enough burst and displacement to punish Karthus's immobility, provided he respects Wall of Pain and Death Defied damage after the kill.
Watch for Wall of Pain cuts Gragas's movement and magic resistance, making Body Slam engages much easier for Karthus to punish with Lay Waste and Defile.
How to beat
Approach from angles where Wall of Pain cannot force a long walk through Defile. Bait the wall, then Body Slam through the side and use Explosive Cask to interrupt spacing or knock him out of his preferred zone. After killing him, leave Death Defied range immediately instead of standing in Defile for extra damage.
Later Karthus is more threatening in full teamfights because Death Defied and Requiem still contribute after he dies. Gragas can beat him in side lanes and should use cask to displace him before the fight becomes a stationary damage zone.
- Do not chase straight through Wall of Pain.
- Body Slam interrupts his comfort spacing, but it does not stop Death Defied value.
- Leave his corpse zone immediately after the kill.
- A cask that knocks him away from your team is often better than one that knocks him toward you.

KassadinUnfavoured
Kassadin's magic damage reduction, silence, and Riftwalk mobility make it hard for Gragas to land a full spell rotation on equal footing.
Watch for Null Sphere silences Gragas before he can chain Barrel Roll, Body Slam, and Explosive Cask cleanly.
How to beat
Force Kassadin to spend Riftwalk defensively by threatening Barrel Roll zones rather than chasing blindly. Wait out Null Sphere before committing Body Slam, because being silenced in melee gives him a free trade. If he stacks Riftwalk aggressively, disengage with cask and punish the mana cost window afterward.
Later Kassadin becomes the stronger side-lane and pick threat once his cooldowns and mana pool are online. Gragas should group earlier, hold cask for Kassadin's entrance, and win fights by interrupting his backline access rather than chasing him through Riftwalks.
- Do not start your full combo into Null Sphere silence.
- Barrel Roll where he wants to Riftwalk next, not where he is standing now.
- Explosive Cask is your best answer to an aggressive Riftwalk chain.
- His passive makes pure magic burst less reliable than against most mages.

KatarinaFavoured
Gragas can interrupt Death Lotus and punish Katarina's predictable Shunpo entry with Body Slam and Explosive Cask.
Watch for Death Lotus deals its damage only if Gragas has already spent his interrupt or displacement.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Shunpo is her commitment, then Body Slam her landing point. Never spend both Body Slam and Explosive Cask before Death Lotus unless the combo kills her outright. Once Shunpo is down, Barrel Roll slow and cask displacement make it hard for her to finish the duel.
Later Katarina is more dangerous in messy teamfights with resets, while Gragas brings reliable anti-channel and displacement. Hold one interrupt for Death Lotus and use cask to deny her access to low-health teammates.
- Body Slam or Explosive Cask cancels Death Lotus.
- Place Barrel Roll on yourself when she is looking for Shunpo.
- If she uses Shunpo defensively, she cannot dodge your next cask easily.
- Do not give her a reset by fighting beside low-health allies.

KayleUnfavoured
Kayle outranges and outlasts Gragas during Righteous Fury, and Intervention denies the burst window Gragas needs to win cleanly.
Watch for Intervention makes Kayle immune during Gragas's burst, wasting Barrel Roll, Body Slam, or Explosive Cask if timed poorly.
How to beat
Do not trade while Righteous Fury is active unless you are only poking with Barrel Roll. Bait Intervention with a partial combo, disengage with Body Slam or cask, then re-enter when the immunity ends. Your best fight is a short burst after Reckoning and Righteous Fury are down, not a sustained auto duel.
Later Kayle is the better sustained side-lane threat and can invalidate your pick attempt with Intervention. In teamfights, force the ultimate on the wrong target, then use Explosive Cask to separate Kayle from whoever she is trying to save.
- Never throw your full combo into Intervention.
- Barrel Roll's attack-speed slow is valuable during Righteous Fury uptime.
- Explosive Cask can push Kayle away after she ults herself, buying out the immunity timer.
- If Reckoning hits first, do not take the extended trade.

KennenEven
Kennen can kite and stun Gragas with Mark of the Storm, but Gragas has enough burst and displacement to win if he avoids the all-in storm.
Watch for Slicing Maelstrom stacks Mark of the Storm while damaging in melee range, punishing Gragas for staying after Body Slam connects.
How to beat
Fight at the edge of Barrel Roll range and avoid giving Kennen free marks from repeated poke. Wait for Lightning Rush before committing, because it is both his dodge and his escape. If he uses Slicing Maelstrom, cask him away or leave immediately rather than trading inside it.
Later Kennen's teamfight engage is more dangerous than his side-lane duel if he finds multi-man Slicing Maelstrom. Gragas should mark him with vision, stay spread, and use Explosive Cask to break his entry path or peel him out of the backline.
- Track your Mark of the Storm stacks; the third mark changes the trade.
- Do not Body Slam into Kennen while Lightning Rush is ready unless you can force it first.
- Explosive Cask can deny the center of Slicing Maelstrom.
- Barrel Roll poke is safest after his empowered W threat is spent.

Kog'MawFavoured
Gragas can punish Kog'Maw's low mobility with burst and displacement before Bio-Arcane Barrage wins the sustained fight.
Watch for Bio-Arcane Barrage gives Kog'Maw the range and percent-health damage to shred Gragas if the fight stays extended.
How to beat
Stay outside his empowered auto range until Bio-Arcane Barrage is down or nearly ending. Then Body Slam from fog or an angle, layer Barrel Roll under his retreat, and use Explosive Cask to keep him from kiting backward. After the kill, leave Icathian Surprise's detonation path instead of chasing the corpse.
Later Kog'Maw becomes much stronger in protected teamfights, while Gragas still wins isolated picks if he reaches him. Do not duel through a frontline; flank and cask Kog'Maw out of protection or peel him away from his damage window.
- Count Bio-Arcane Barrage before committing.
- Explosive Cask should displace him sideways or toward you, not safely farther back.
- Void Ooze can ruin a straight-line Body Slam, so approach from the side.
- Walk away from Icathian Surprise immediately after the kill.

Lee SinEven
Lee Sin wins extended scrappy melee trades, but Gragas can deny his second Q and reset the fight with Body Slam or Explosive Cask.
Watch for Sonic Wave / Resonating Strike lets Lee Sin choose the re-engage and punish Gragas hardest when Gragas is already missing health.
How to beat
Stand behind minions or sidestep so Sonic Wave does not start the fight on Lee's terms. If Q lands, save Body Slam or Explosive Cask for Resonating Strike's arrival rather than panicking early. Commit after he has spent Safeguard and Dragon's Rage, when he has fewer ways to reposition or burst you away.
Later Lee remains strong in side-lane skirmishes and picks, while Gragas has the stronger long-range teamfight disruption. In groups, keep cask for Lee's dive or to isolate his carry after he kicks someone out.
- A missed Sonic Wave is your cleanest trade window.
- Body Slam timed into Resonating Strike can stop his follow-up spacing.
- Do not let Dragon's Rage kick you back into his team or away from your barrel.
- His Flurry autos make long melee trades worse than short spell trades.

LeonaFavoured
Leona has crowd control but little solo damage, so Gragas wins the duel if he avoids being held under outside damage or turret fire.
Watch for Zenith Blade starts Leona's crowd-control chain and removes Gragas's spacing advantage.
How to beat
Keep enough distance that Zenith Blade is her only real way in, then sidestep it and punish the miss with Barrel Roll plus Body Slam. If she lands it, wait out Shield of Daybreak and Eclipse before committing damage. Use Explosive Cask to break her chain or knock her away after she uses Solar Flare.
Later Leona is not a side-lane threat, but her teamfight engage is much more relevant than her duel. Gragas should avoid being the first target locked down and use cask to split her from follow-up damage.
- If Zenith Blade misses, she has no clean way to force you.
- Do not burst fully into Eclipse resistances.
- Explosive Cask can deny her follow-up after Solar Flare.
- Her passive does not matter much in a true 1v1 because no ally can consume Sunlight.

LuluEven
Lulu can deny Gragas's burst with Whimsy, Help, Pix!, and Wild Growth, but she usually cannot kill him quickly if he spaces patiently.
Watch for Wild Growth knocks Gragas up and adds enough bonus health to erase his all-in timing.
How to beat
Poke from Barrel Roll range and do not Body Slam until Whimsy is down or she has used it for movement. Try to force Help, Pix! with a smaller trade before spending Explosive Cask. If she uses Wild Growth, disengage and re-enter after the bonus health window instead of fighting through it.
Later Lulu is stronger in teamfights because her defensive cooldowns can ruin your engage on a carry. Side lane is manageable for Gragas, but in groups you need to bait Whimsy or Wild Growth before committing the cask that matters.
- Do not start with Body Slam if Whimsy is ready.
- Glitterlance slow makes missed engages very punishable.
- Explosive Cask after Wild Growth is usually better than before it.
- Her shield makes poke trades look losing unless you force it repeatedly.

LuxEven
Lux can win from range if Light Binding lands, but Gragas can burst her hard when he dodges the bind and reaches melee range.
Watch for Light Binding roots Gragas long enough for Lucent Singularity, Illumination, and Finales Funkeln to land together.
How to beat
Play behind minions and move diagonally so Light Binding has to be aimed rather than thrown straight. Once it misses, Body Slam aggressively and place Barrel Roll behind Lux's escape path. Save Explosive Cask either to finish after Prismatic Barrier or to knock her out of Finales Funkeln's setup angle.
Later Lux brings safer poke and pick threat in grouped fights, while Gragas has stronger displacement if he finds a flank. In side lane Gragas can threaten her after bind is down, but in teamfights he must avoid walking through her zone control before engaging.
- Light Binding cooldown is the whole matchup.
- Do not chase through Lucent Singularity while slowed unless Body Slam is ready.
- Explosive Cask can interrupt her positioning for Finales Funkeln but not if you are already rooted.
- Her shield can absorb both passes, so delay damage if she throws it early.

MalphiteEven
Malphite is hard to burst through shield and resists, but Gragas can sustain, kite, and avoid the prolonged armor-based trade if he manages cooldowns well.
Watch for Unstoppable Force removes Gragas's spacing and guarantees Malphite's follow-up burst and Ground Slam slow zone.
How to beat
Break Granite Shield with Barrel Roll before taking a real trade. Stay far enough back that Seismic Shard does not let him walk into repeated Ground Slams, and hold Body Slam to disengage after his ultimate or to punish it if he whiffs. Commit after Granite Shield is down and Unstoppable Force has been used or is clearly unavailable.
Later Malphite's teamfight initiation often outweighs his side-lane pressure, while Gragas has better displacement follow-up and disengage. In grouped fights, spread out and use Explosive Cask to undo his engage or isolate the backline after he commits.
- Do not waste burst into Granite Shield.
- Ground Slam's attack-speed reduction matters less to Gragas than to auto attackers, so do not overvalue it.
- Body Slam saved after Unstoppable Force can prevent the extended melee trade.
- Keep poking so his shield cannot refresh for free.

MalzaharUnfavoured
Malzahar wins clean all-ins if he can hold Gragas in Null Zone with Nether Grasp, but Gragas can punish him before level 6 and interrupt his setup with displacement.
Watch for Nether Grasp suppresses Gragas long enough for Null Zone and Malefic Visions to finish the trade.
How to beat
Stay outside minion lines so Malefic Visions does not bounce for free, and poke with Barrel Roll rather than Body Slamming into his ground effects. After level 6, do not spend Explosive Cask casually; use it to break his position before he can channel or to disengage once he commits.
Later Malzahar is stronger at locking one target in coordinated fights, while Gragas is better at breaking formations with Explosive Cask. In side lane, avoid isolated ult-for-ult duels unless Quicksilver Sash is ready; in teamfights, threaten him from fog and displace him before he suppresses a carry.
- If Malzahar walks forward with Voidling active, expect Nether Grasp setup rather than a simple poke trade.
- Explosive Cask can ruin his channel positioning, but only if you are not already suppressed.
- Clear Voidlings with Barrel Roll before they add too much damage during Malefic Visions.
- Do not Body Slam through Null Zone unless you are certain the burst kills him.

Master YiEven
Gragas can burst and displace Master Yi before he gets resets, but Highlander ignores Gragas's slows and makes missed cooldowns fatal.
Watch for Highlander removes the value of Barrel Roll and Body Slam slows while letting Yi chase through disengage attempts.
How to beat
Hold Body Slam until after Alpha Strike lands, then create distance and drop Barrel Roll where Yi must continue chasing. Commit only when Meditate is baited or Explosive Cask can knock him out of it and deny the heal window.
Later Master Yi becomes the scarier side-lane duelist if he survives Gragas's first rotation, while Gragas brings much more reliable teamfight disruption. Do not match him in extended auto fights; group, peel him off carries with Explosive Cask, and force him to enter through vision.
- Do not throw Barrel Roll at Yi before Alpha Strike unless he has no minions to dodge through.
- Explosive Cask can interrupt Meditate and turn a losing finish into a kill.
- Highlander ignores your slows, so Body Slam is for spacing and collision, not a lasting kite.
- Fight in short bursts; every extra second favors Double Strike and Wuju Style.

Miss FortuneFavoured
Miss Fortune has strong lane poke but no dash, so Gragas can force her out of Bullet Time and win if he reaches Body Slam range.
Watch for Bullet Time punishes Gragas if he uses Body Slam forward and has no displacement left to cancel or escape the cone.
How to beat
Avoid standing behind low minions for Double Up, then chip her Strut off with Barrel Roll before looking for E range. Save Explosive Cask until she channels Bullet Time or until it guarantees she is knocked back into your full combo.
Later Miss Fortune outscales as a protected backline damage source, but she still hates Gragas's displacement. In side lane Gragas can kill her if he gets vision control; in teamfights, flank or hold cask to cancel Bullet Time immediately.
- A light Barrel Roll tap is enough to break Strut and make Body Slam easier to land.
- Do not Body Slam straight through Make It Rain unless you are already in kill range.
- Explosive Cask should cancel Bullet Time, not start a low-value poke trade.
- Double Up is much weaker if you refuse to line up behind caster minions.

MorganaEven
Black Shield blocks Gragas's magic damage and crowd control, but Morgana is punishable when it is down and cannot easily chase him without landing Dark Binding.
Watch for Black Shield denies Body Slam slow and Explosive Cask displacement if Gragas commits into it.
How to beat
Trade with Barrel Roll to pressure Black Shield, then wait out the shield before using Body Slam or Explosive Cask. Keep enough lateral space to dodge Dark Binding; if it misses, Morgana has little threat unless Soul Shackles is already attached.
Later Morgana is better as a teamfight counter-engage and pick champion, while Gragas has stronger instant displacement. Side-lane duels are slow and shield-dependent; in fights, either bait Black Shield early or cask a different target away from it.
- Do not spend Explosive Cask into a fresh Black Shield unless the shield will break first.
- Dark Binding into Tormented Soil is her real damage window, so dodge sideways before trading.
- If Soul Shackles starts, Body Slam out before the second hit stuns you.
- Barrel Roll pressure can force Black Shield without putting yourself in binding range.

NasusFavoured
Gragas controls early and midgame spacing well enough to deny Nasus extended trades, but Nasus becomes dangerous if he is allowed to stack and stay in melee during Fury of the Sands.
Watch for Wither removes Gragas's ability to kite once Nasus has reached melee range.
How to beat
Harass him when he walks up for Siphoning Strike and use Body Slam after Wither starts to regain distance. Do not stand in Spirit Fire while trading; force short Q-E bursts, then back out before Fury of the Sands turns the fight into a drain battle.
Later A farmed Nasus eventually wins the side lane if he can force long melee contact, while Gragas remains more valuable in grouped fights. Use Explosive Cask to peel him away from carries or to disengage his ultimate rather than trying to solo through it.
- Punish every Siphoning Strike last-hit attempt with Barrel Roll if the wave position allows it.
- Body Slam after Wither is stronger than opening with it and being slowed afterward.
- Explosive Cask should reset the fight when Fury of the Sands is active.
- Never brawl inside Spirit Fire; the armor shred makes his Q trades much better.

NidaleeEven
Nidalee wins long poke and brush-control fights, while Gragas wins if he dodges Javelin Toss and catches her cougar form with Body Slam burst.
Watch for Javelin Toss chunks Gragas before the fight starts and makes any follow-up cougar trade favorable for Nidalee.
How to beat
Keep minions or angles between you and long spears, and do not chase blindly through brush or traps. Once Javelin Toss misses, close quickly with Body Slam and use Explosive Cask to stop her from resetting with Pounce.
Later Nidalee is better at sieging and side-lane attrition, while Gragas is better at decisive teamfight disruption. In side lanes, keep waves short and ward brush; in fights, punish her if she enters cougar form before your cask is used.
- A trapped Gragas loses resists, so back off instead of forcing the next trade.
- Her heal makes slow poke less reliable; look for burst after she spends Primal Surge.
- Do not chase cougar Nidalee through brush where Prowl and Pounce extend the gap.
- Explosive Cask can knock her away mid-dive before Takedown finishes the trade.

Nunu & WillumpFavoured
Nunu is hard to kill through Consume sustain but lacks enough duel damage to threaten Gragas unless Absolute Zero channels unchecked.
Watch for Absolute Zero punishes Gragas if Body Slam and Explosive Cask are both unavailable to interrupt or escape it.
How to beat
Do not waste mana trying to kill him through repeated Consume heals near minions or monsters. Trade when he has just used Ice Blast, then save either Body Slam or Explosive Cask to leave or interrupt Absolute Zero.
Later Nunu rarely wants a true duel; he matters more by buffing allies and controlling objectives. Gragas is stronger in direct fights and teamfight displacement, but should respect Blood Boil carries rather than tunnel on Nunu himself.
- Fight him away from minions and jungle camps so Consume cannot reset the trade.
- Ice Blast slows your engage, but it is not enough damage by itself to win the duel.
- Keep one displacement tool for Absolute Zero every time.
- If Blood Boil is on a carry, cask the carry away instead of chasing Nunu.

OlafUnfavoured
Olaf beats Gragas in committed melee fights because Ragnarok ignores Gragas's crowd control and Reckless Swing cuts through tankiness.
Watch for Ragnarok makes Olaf immune to Body Slam and Explosive Cask control during the window where he wants to run Gragas down.
How to beat
Poke with Barrel Roll and never offer a straight all-in while Undertow is easy to pick back up. Force Ragnarok defensively with burst, disengage until it ends, then re-enter if he is low and has lost axe control.
Later Olaf is the stronger side-lane duelist, especially if he can chain Undertow. Gragas is better in teamfights when he ignores Olaf during Ragnarok and instead displaces Olaf's backline or peels after the immunity ends.
- Do not Body Slam first if Olaf still has Ragnarok; he will simply run through it.
- Sidestep Undertow at an angle so he cannot instantly retrieve the axe.
- Reckless Swing means armor alone will not solve the duel.
- Explosive Cask is best after Ragnarok ends or against Olaf's teammates.

PantheonUnfavoured
Pantheon's targeted stun and early physical burst make him favored before Gragas has enough armor and health to survive the full combo.
Watch for Aegis of Zeonia locks Gragas in place for Heartseeker Strike and prevents him from spacing the burst.
How to beat
Keep trades short and do not Body Slam into a ready passive block unless Barrel Roll has already softened him. After he uses Aegis of Zeonia, disengage the Heartseeker Strike cone with Body Slam or Explosive Cask, then punish while his stun is down.
Later Pantheon's side-lane threat falls if he fails to snowball, while Gragas becomes more useful at breaking grouped fights. Respect Grand Skyfall flanks, but in front-to-back fights Gragas can peel or displace Pantheon after his first stun lands.
- Pop Aegis Protection with a basic attack or Barrel Roll before committing your full burst.
- Move out of the Heartseeker Strike cone immediately after the stun ends.
- Armor is high value because most of his duel damage is physical.
- If he ults behind your team, save Explosive Cask for his landing follow-up.

RammusFavoured
Rammus is durable and disruptive but has low solo kill pressure against Gragas unless Gragas attacks into Defensive Ball Curl after being taunted.
Watch for Puncturing Taunt forces Gragas to hit Defensive Ball Curl and gives Rammus time for Tremors damage.
How to beat
Do not chase through Powerball paths; let him engage, absorb the short taunt, then use Body Slam to separate once control ends. Trade mainly with spells, not repeated basic attacks into Defensive Ball Curl.
Later Rammus is not a side-lane duelist Gragas should fear, but he can start fights better if he reaches carries. Gragas should cask him away from the backline or knock enemy damage dealers away from his taunt target.
- Avoid basic attacking during Defensive Ball Curl unless it secures the kill.
- Body Slam after Puncturing Taunt ends usually breaks his Tremors range.
- Powerball is predictable; Barrel Roll where he must slow down or turn.
- Do not spend Explosive Cask just to move him if his carries are still untouched.

RyzeUnfavoured
Ryze wins sustained close-range spell rotations, and Rune Prison makes it hard for Gragas to choose when the trade ends.
Watch for Rune Prison roots Gragas in range for Overload, Spell Flux, and Desperate Power follow-up.
How to beat
Stay just outside Rune Prison range and make him choose between farming and eating Barrel Roll poke. If he activates Desperate Power, disengage with Body Slam or Explosive Cask and re-fight after the spell vamp and movement speed expire.
Later Ryze becomes a stronger side-lane duelist once he has mana and durability, while Gragas has more reliable displacement in teamfights. Do not brawl him alone at full build; isolate or split his team with Explosive Cask before his short-cooldown rotation takes over.
- Never Body Slam into Ryze while Desperate Power is active unless it kills him.
- Spell Flux lowers your magic resist, so back off before the next rotation lands.
- Banshee's Veil can block the Rune Prison that starts his full combo.
- Use Barrel Roll from max range; his kit is much better once you are rooted nearby.

ShacoEven
Shaco can outplay Gragas with Deceive and Jack In The Box setups, but he dies quickly if Gragas reveals the real engage and lands burst before Hallucinate value builds.
Watch for Deceive lets Shaco dodge Barrel Roll or appear behind Gragas for Backstab burst.
How to beat
Do not chase into unwarded paths where Jack In The Box can fear you before he appears. Hold Body Slam until after Deceive is used, then burst the real Shaco and use Explosive Cask to separate him from his clone if Hallucinate starts confusing the fight.
Later Shaco is more threatening in isolated picks and split pressure, while Gragas is far stronger in structured teamfights. Keep vision around flanks, deny box nests, and force him to enter fights through your frontline.
- If Shaco disappears before your Barrel Roll detonates, delay the detonation until he reappears or walks back in.
- Do not blow your full combo into Hallucinate clone unless you know the real one's position.
- Jack In The Box turns narrow jungle chases into losing fights.
- Explosive Cask can split clone and champion long enough to identify the real target.

ShenEven
Shen is too durable to burst easily and can force extended trades with Shadow Dash, but Gragas has enough disengage to avoid losing long fights.
Watch for Shadow Dash taunts Gragas and lets Shen force Ki Strike and Vorpal Blade trades on his terms.
How to beat
Poke with Barrel Roll before committing, and stand off-angle so Shadow Dash has to be used predictably. If Shen taunts in, trade one rotation and Body Slam away before repeated Vorpal Blade healing and Ki Strike value catch up.
Later Shen is better at side-lane map pressure because Stand United lets him join fights first, while Gragas is better at instantly disrupting grouped enemies. Match waves carefully and save Explosive Cask to interrupt Shen's backline access, not to chase his tank stats.
- Track Ki Strike; short trades are worse when his empowered attack is ready.
- Do not use Body Slam into a ready Shadow Dash unless you need to interrupt his path.
- If Stand United starts nearby, Explosive Cask displacement can break the follow-up fight even if it does not stop the shield.
- Extended trades into Vorpal Blade healing favor Shen more than they look.

SingedEven
Singed is hard for Gragas to kill because he wants to run away through Poison Trail, but Gragas can avoid losing if he refuses to chase and uses displacement after Fling.
Watch for Fling puts Gragas behind Singed, forcing him to walk through Poison Trail and Mega Adhesive.
How to beat
Hold the wave and poke from range; do not chase Singed down the lane unless Explosive Cask guarantees the finish. Save Body Slam for after Fling or Mega Adhesive so you can leave the poison path instead of extending the trade.
Later Singed usually becomes the stronger side-lane nuisance because he clears and escapes, while Gragas brings better immediate teamfight burst and displacement. Clear waves, avoid long pursuits, and cask Singed away from your carries when he tries to run through the team.
- If Singed turns his back and offers a chase, the trade is probably already bad.
- Body Slam after Fling gets you out of Poison Trail faster than using it to start.
- Explosive Cask can knock him away during Insanity Potion instead of trying to burst through it.
- Fight him in open space; Mega Adhesive is much worse when it does not trap your exit.

SionEven
Gragas can kite and burst AP-style Sion shields, but sustained AD Sion wins if Cannibalism lets him keep attacking through the first rotation.
Watch for Cryptic Gaze stuns Gragas long enough for Death's Caress or Cannibalism trades to start on Sion's terms.
How to beat
Harass from outside stun range and force Death's Caress to expire or break before it detonates. If he uses Cryptic Gaze aggressively, disengage the follow-up with Body Slam, then re-enter once the shield and stun are down.
Later AD Sion is a stronger side-lane stat-checker if he can stick, while Gragas is more useful in teamfight disruption. Use Explosive Cask to peel him during Cannibalism rather than feeding his lifesteal window with a messy melee fight.
- Do not stand next to Death's Caress waiting for it to pop; break it or leave.
- Cryptic Gaze range decides the duel, so make him walk through Barrel Roll first.
- Explosive Cask is excellent at denying Cannibalism uptime.
- If he builds toward sustained attacks, armor and anti-heal matter more than raw burst.

SivirEven
Sivir can block one key spell and kite with On The Hunt, but Gragas wins if he baits Spell Shield before committing Body Slam or Explosive Cask.
Watch for Spell Shield can erase the Body Slam or Explosive Cask that Gragas needs to force the fight.
How to beat
Use Barrel Roll placement and movement to draw out Spell Shield before spending your engage. Once the shield is down, Body Slam from an angle that avoids Boomerang Blade's return path and cask her back before On The Hunt creates distance.
Later Sivir is stronger as a protected teamfight damage engine, while Gragas is better at disrupting her team's formation. In side lane he can kill her if Spell Shield is down; in 5v5s, do not waste cask into Spell Shield and look to split her from her frontline.
- Do not detonate Barrel Roll into Spell Shield unless you are intentionally removing it.
- Boomerang Blade hurts most when you eat both passes after Body Slam.
- On The Hunt makes chasing unreliable, so use Explosive Cask to reposition her instantly.
- Her 425 range is short for a marksman; punish last-hits with Barrel Roll before she can freely auto.

SkarnerEven
Gragas can kite and burst Skarner before the brawl lasts too long, but Skarner wins if Crystalline Exoskeleton stays up and he reaches repeated Crystal Slash hits.
Watch for Impale suppresses you long enough for Skarner to drag you through his melee damage or into his team.
How to beat
Hold just outside Crystal Slash range and make him spend Crystalline Exoskeleton to approach, then break or wait out the shield before using Body Slam aggressively. If he still has Impale, keep Explosive Cask ready to disengage after the suppress ends instead of throwing it for damage first.
Later Finished Skarner is harder to kill in a side lane if he can stick, but Gragas has better teamfight disruption. Play around cask displacement, deny his straight engage path, and do not stand where Impale can pull you into his team.
- Barrel Roll's attack speed slow matters most after his shield is gone.
- Body Slam into Skarner while Crystalline Exoskeleton is active often gives him the melee fight he wants.
- Explosive Cask can separate Skarner from follow-up after Impale ends.
- Do not chase him through repeated Crystal Slash hits unless his shield is down.

SonaFavoured
Sona's poke and sustain are annoying, but she is fragile enough that Gragas can force a burst trade whenever Crescendo is down or missed.
Watch for Crescendo stuns you in place and stops your Body Slam or cask follow-up.
How to beat
Stay outside her 550 poke pattern until Barrel Roll can tag her, then threaten Body Slam when she steps forward for Hymn of Valor or Power Chord. Bait Crescendo with short approaches; once it is down, Body Slam into point-blank Barrel Roll and use Explosive Cask to stop her escape.
Later Sona is not a side-lane duelist, but her teamfight aura and Crescendo can decide grouped fights. Gragas should look for flanks or cask angles that knock her away from her carries before she gets a clean ultimate.
- Track Power Chord; the damage-reduction version can blunt your all-in.
- Do not Body Slam in a straight line when Crescendo is ready.
- Explosive Cask behind Sona denies her slow Song of Celerity retreat.
- Her sustain is much weaker once you force her to heal herself instead of trading freely.

SorakaFavoured
Soraka can silence and heal through poke, but she lacks the damage and mobility to survive repeated Gragas engage windows by herself.
Watch for Infuse silences you and can interrupt the spell chain that makes your burst lethal.
How to beat
Poke with Barrel Roll from outside Starcall range and do not start Body Slam while Infuse is available unless you can still win with autos and delayed Barrel Roll. Once silence is used, commit hard and save Explosive Cask until after Wish or Astral Blessing extends the fight.
Later Soraka will not beat Gragas alone unless he wastes cooldowns, but grouped she can erase poke and make burst targets survive. In teamfights, cask her away from the carry or force Wish before your team commits.
- Infuse is the cooldown that decides whether your combo is clean.
- Do not stand in repeated Starcall ticks; the magic resist shred makes her team matter more.
- Explosive Cask after Wish is usually better than before it.
- Grievous Wounds is only worth considering if Soraka healing is deciding fights, not for the duel alone.

TaricFavoured
Taric is durable into physical damage, but Gragas deals enough magic burst and has enough displacement to avoid a long melee stat check.
Watch for Dazzle stuns you and lets Taric walk into close-range Shatter and Radiance damage.
How to beat
Do not give him a free short-range Dazzle; poke with Barrel Roll and back away after Body Slam instead of staying in his aura fight. When Dazzle is down, use Body Slam to force distance or burst, then cask him away before Imbue buys another rotation.
Later Taric remains more useful next to allies than alone, while Gragas has better pick and disengage power. In grouped fights, avoid blowing everything into Shatter's armor aura target and use Explosive Cask to split Taric from the carry he wants to protect.
- His Shatter armor does little against your main magic burst.
- Close-range Dazzle hits harder, so do not Body Slam directly into him for no reason.
- Cask can deny Taric's follow-up after he lands Dazzle.
- If he builds heavy MR, stop trying to one-rotation him and play for displacement.

TeemoEven
Gragas can delete Teemo if he lands Body Slam, but Teemo wins extended spacing wars with poison, blind, Move Quick, and mushrooms.
Watch for Noxious Trap controls the approach path and turns your Body Slam chase into a losing trade.
How to beat
Fight from fog or from a clear lane angle so Teemo cannot kite you through mushrooms. Use Barrel Roll to break Move Quick before committing, then Body Slam immediately after he has used Blinding Dart or when blind will not stop your spell burst.
Later Teemo is stronger at controlling side-lane terrain, but Gragas is much more reliable in a grouped fight. Sweep paths with wards and force objective fights where Explosive Cask can displace him instead of chasing through traps.
- Barrel Roll damage disables Move Quick's passive speed.
- Do not chase through unwarded brush after he drops below half health.
- Blind does not stop your spell damage, but it can waste auto-based finishers.
- Cask him toward cleared ground, not deeper into mushroom territory.

TristanaUnfavoured
Tristana's range, Rocket Jump, and Buster Shot make it difficult for Gragas to keep her in his damage after the first engage.
Watch for Rocket Jump resets the spacing and slows you if you Body Slam in too early.
How to beat
Hold Barrel Roll range and make her use Rocket Jump defensively before spending Explosive Cask. If she keeps both Rocket Jump and Buster Shot, do not hard commit from max range; force her into a wall or minion wave angle where Body Slam can connect after her knockback.
Later Tristana outscales the side-lane duel if she has room to kite, while Gragas is stronger at starting or breaking teamfights with cask. Your job becomes flank control and displacement, not walking straight at her through her full range.
- Save cask for after Rocket Jump when possible.
- Body Slam first into Buster Shot usually loses the trade.
- Her range scales up, so windows get worse as levels rise.
- Attack speed slows from Barrel Roll are meaningful during Rapid Fire.

TryndamereUnfavoured
Gragas can kite early trades, but Tryndamere's sustain, critical hits, Spinning Slash, and Undying Rage make the all-in favor him if he reaches melee repeatedly.
Watch for Undying Rage denies your burst kill and gives Tryndamere time to finish you while your cooldowns are down.
How to beat
Use Barrel Roll to slow his attack speed before he commits, and save Body Slam for after Spinning Slash rather than starting the fight with it. When he activates Undying Rage, disengage with Explosive Cask or Body Slam and re-enter only as it expires.
Later Tryndamere becomes the stronger side-lane threat and forces Gragas to answer waves carefully. In teamfights, Gragas is more useful if he peels Tryndamere out during Undying Rage instead of trying to burst through it.
- Do not spend Explosive Cask for damage before Undying Rage is forced.
- Body Slam after Spinning Slash creates the only reliable gap reset.
- Barrel Roll's attack speed slow is strongest before his Fury crits stack the trade.
- Armor plus attack speed reduction changes the matchup more than raw health.

Twisted FateFavoured
Twisted Fate can poke and stun, but he is immobile enough that Gragas wins the duel once Gold Card is baited or missed.
Watch for Pick A Card's Gold Card stuns you and gives Twisted Fate space to land Wild Cards or escape.
How to beat
Stand outside locked-card auto range and pressure with Barrel Roll until he has to show Pick A Card. If he throws Gold Card defensively or wastes it on a minion, Body Slam in immediately and use Explosive Cask to stop the retreat before Gate can matter.
Later Twisted Fate avoids honest side-lane duels by using Destiny and Gate to play the map. Gragas should shove safely, track his ultimate, and punish him in grouped fights where cask interrupts his positioning.
- Watch the card cycle; do not engage into a held Gold Card.
- Body Slam can punish his long Wild Cards cast if he uses it in range.
- Explosive Cask can break his channel setup or knock him away from tower safety.
- Mercury's Treads are enough if Gold Card is the only problem.

TwitchUnfavoured
Twitch loses if Gragas finds him first, but Ambush and Spray and Pray let him choose the fight and shred Gragas before a clean combo lands.
Watch for Ambush lets Twitch open from invisibility with stacked Deadly Venom before you can set Barrel Roll spacing.
How to beat
Do not walk into dark paths without vision; Twitch's strongest duel is the opener from stealth. If he reveals with Spray and Pray, move sideways out of the line and use Explosive Cask to break his firing angle, then Body Slam only when you can actually reach him.
Later Twitch is the more dangerous finished carry in side skirmishes and front-to-back fights, but Gragas can ruin him with one displacement. Play around vision and flank denial, then cask him out of Spray and Pray or into your team's burst.
- A warded flank turns Ambush from a kill setup into a punish window.
- Do not chase in a straight line during Spray and Pray.
- Barrel Roll's attack speed slow should land before you commit if possible.
- Randuin's Omen is especially good when he has to auto through you.

VayneUnfavoured
Vayne's mobility, Condemn, and Silver Bolts make her one of the hardest equal-duel marksmen for Gragas to pin down.
Watch for Condemn knocks you out of Body Slam range and can stun you against terrain, ending your all-in.
How to beat
Never engage with a wall directly behind you; angle your approach so Condemn only creates distance, not a stun. Force Tumble with Barrel Roll pressure, then Body Slam during its downtime and hold Explosive Cask until after Condemn or Final Hour invisibility creates separation.
Later Vayne becomes favored in the side lane and shreds Gragas if she has space. In teamfights, Gragas must play for instant displacement or peel rather than a long chase through Final Hour tumbles.
- Terrain decides this duel more than raw health does.
- Do not cask before Condemn unless it guarantees the hit.
- Barrel Roll's attack speed slow reduces her Silver Bolts access window.
- Pink or area vision matters when Final Hour Tumble breaks target tracking.

VeigarEven
Gragas can punish Veigar's immobility, but Event Horizon and Primordial Burst make a failed engage extremely dangerous for an AP Gragas build.
Watch for Event Horizon zones or stuns you, stopping Body Slam and setting up Dark Matter plus Primordial Burst.
How to beat
Hover just outside Event Horizon range and use Barrel Roll to force him to cast it defensively. Once the cage is down, Body Slam from an angle that avoids the perimeter and burst quickly; if he still has Primordial Burst, avoid staying low after your passive heal windows are spent.
Later Veigar's finished burst can kill Gragas if he catches him, but Gragas has better initiation and can displace him before he casts. In teamfights, do not stack with allies inside Event Horizon and look for cask picks from fog.
- Do not Body Slam through the cage edge; wait or go around it.
- Primordial Burst scales harder against AP-heavy Gragas.
- Banshee's Veil can block the spell that starts his kill pattern.
- Zhonya's can waste his delayed Dark Matter or ultimate timing.

WarwickUnfavoured
Warwick's sustain and suppression make extended 1v1s favor him unless Gragas cleanly disengages after short burst trades.
Watch for Infinite Duress suppresses you and lets Warwick drain through the fight while your cooldowns are unavailable.
How to beat
Take short trades with Barrel Roll and Body Slam, then leave before his passive and Hungering Strike heal the damage back. Keep Explosive Cask for disengaging after Infinite Duress or for knocking him away when he tries to follow with Blood Scent speed.
Later Warwick remains stronger in isolated drain duels, while Gragas brings better area control to grouped fights. Buy to survive the suppress window, then use cask to peel him off your carries or split him from follow-up.
- If you cannot burst him quickly, do not stand still for the drain fight.
- Blood Scent makes low-health escapes unreliable, so leave before you are marked.
- Quicksilver Sash removes Infinite Duress and changes the duel dramatically.
- Barrel Roll's attack speed slow reduces both his damage and passive healing pace.

WukongEven
Gragas can win by denying Wukong's burst-and-reset pattern, but Wukong wins if Decoy wastes the combo and Cyclone keeps him in melee range.
Watch for Decoy makes your Body Slam or Explosive Cask hit the clone while Wukong repositions for the real trade.
How to beat
Do not throw your full combo the moment he uses Nimbus Strike; wait a beat to see whether he casts Decoy. If Decoy is down, Body Slam his re-entry and place Barrel Roll where he has to keep fighting, then use Explosive Cask to stop Cyclone from carrying through you.
Later Wukong is often better as a backline knock-up threat, while Gragas is better at disengage and pick angles. In side lane it stays playable if Gragas tracks Decoy, but grouped fights require saving cask to break Cyclone's path.
- A sudden stop after Nimbus Strike usually signals Decoy.
- Do not chase the clone; reposition for where Wukong exits invisibility.
- Explosive Cask can knock him out during Cyclone's spin path.
- Seeker's or armor items are strong if his physical burst is the problem.

ZileanEven
Zilean can kite and deny lethal burst with Chronoshift, but Gragas can force him to spend cooldowns and punish him once Time Warp or ultimate is down.
Watch for Chronoshift turns your kill combo into a revive and leaves you without cooldowns for the second health bar.
How to beat
Do not all-in just because the first Barrel Roll lands; pressure him until Time Warp is used, then Body Slam before he can reset spacing with Rewind. If Chronoshift is active, stop spending damage and use the time to reposition so you can cask or burst him after the revive window ends.
Later Zilean usually avoids side-lane duels and matters more by reviving a carry in teamfights. Gragas should use Explosive Cask to separate the Chronoshift target from the team or force Zilean to ult himself before the real engage.
- Time Bomb poke is predictable; do not stand near minions carrying it.
- Time Warp is both his escape and his way to make your engage fail.
- Hold damage during Chronoshift instead of finishing into the revive.
- Cask can knock Zilean away from the ally he wants to save.
